I'm really missing my kitchen witch...

I know...I know..superstitions bah humbug and all that...but when I went into my kitchen and saw her sitting on my stove..things always came out like they were supposed to...I lost her during our last move 4 years ago and I aint' been able to cook worth a fart since then...last night I burned cookies...tonight they didn't cook enough...so I'm giving up on the baking and switching to non bake or stove top goodies...My candy thermometer failed me tonight...it just wouldn't register...I know that fudge mix had boiled long enough and the candy thingy was still sitting on 100 degrees...so tomorrow I'm off to find a Kitchen Witch...a new Candy Thermometer...another bundt pan and some new cookie sheets...I'd love to throw out my oven but then there would be a gaping hole in my kitchen...

So now I'm on a hunt for a kitchen witch...do you have one? should I pick up a few hundred for ya'll??

Oh,count me in, for sure.

I see recipes that look OH SO GOOD and then when I make them ... ehhhh .... not so good!

I've never tried a kitchen witch, I'd like to be pleasantly surprised!

I have never tried one either! I am a horrible cook. If she can help me, then by all means, send me one too!

That's too bad but you'll have plenty more blooms over the season. I'm going away next week as well and know that my plants are going to look like crap when I get back. The neighbors kids that take care of my animals and plants when we're away really do a pretty good job but there's just too many plants to expect them to care for as well as too many animals. It takes me a couple hours each day to water everything and I can't ask them to do that. Besides that the animals are more important and there's quite a few of them too. We have a dog, 2 cats, 2 rabbits, 2 sugar gliders, 4 chinchillas, 4 geckos, 2 hamsters, 1 rat, 1 lovebird, 1 tree frog, 2 crabs, 2 anoles, 2 tropical fish tanks and 2 goldfish ponds to care for. It's like a full time job taking care of our pets and plants. lol I'll put up a large shade cloth and stick as many plants as possible under it and hope for the best. Certain plants I will have them pay special attention to and I'll try to group stuff so they can just hit it with the hose. I hope your plants do well and have a good time! Karyn

Good Morning, Everyone! Thank you all for the "welcome back". I missed each and every one of you. Stormy here today on this Good Friday. Dark and a bit chilly out. Good weather for gardens though. Glad for the rain though. We've had high temps and high, dry winds this past week and wildfires every day. Nothing close to here, but close enough that I could smell the smoke. My dogs erupted in chorus with every firetruck that passed by over on the highway.(hehehe). I took pictures of the gardens on the 31st. Glad I did, as the hot, dry winds dried out all the pretty yellow Jonquils later that day. Blasted hot winds ruined them before our Easter Sunday family picnic and egg hunt. They were magnificent in chorus with the yellow forsythias, white Bridle's Wreath, and Redbud trees now in full bloom all over the garden. My beloved Jane Magnolia is breathtakingly beautiful this year and smells so wonderful. I planted out some Orange Perfection Phlox yesterday. Tried them last year, but they didn't make it. This rain may ensure these do. I dug around in the bin at the store until I found one, just one package with moist peat inside. Holding it up to to sunlight, I could just make out something possibly alive in that dark green plastic bag. Makes me mad to pay five bucks for dead rootstock. They are not the best looking root stocks I ever saw, but think they will make it. I only need one to survive to establish a nice clump this year for next year's blooms. I also planted a package of purple Liatris and a package of Freesia bulbs for summer blooms. I love the smell of Freesia. Yummy. All the Peonies are up and beginning to make tiny flower buds. Hopefully the red ones and deep magenta ones will bloom this year too. If they do, it will be their first time. Some deer came into the yard this winter and ate the top branches off the one surviving River birch sapling, but it is recovering nicely now. I caged it with a tomato cage and for now they are leaving it alone. They are "camped" up on the hill, hiding in wait for my juicy, delicious roses to start blooming, no doubt. :[ I've been taking the dogs for walks up there every morning and hopefully their pee and poop will make them think twice about coming any closer to the back yard. My English Shepherd could easily take down a whitetail deer. DH said this weekend he would finish stretching field fence around on the inside of the existing barbed wire fencing to keep out critters. That won't keep deer out, but it will keep our dogs in, so we can let them run loose on the property. That will be great. They need the exercise and I need them to do their job protecting the place. They love it, too. Hopefully the raccoons & coyotes will take the hint. Keep Out! Anyhow, so far so good. Gotta go check on my chicks. They poopy up their water really fast and will be ready for breakfast. :) Talk to you guys later. ~Annie

Interesting thought, fly! I spent a good deal of time on the website linked below - but this woman isn't a pet psychic, I get the feeling she's more of a hand-holder. I wonder if she would give any better advice than what I've received from you all here? (I'm doubtful. Still, I'm somewhat intrigued!) In all honesty, I don't know if I could fully put my trust in a psychic. I guess my biggest issue would be that I'd worry I was simply handing over $ to someone who was taking advantage ... I don't know. I really know nothing about such things. I've just returned from yet another neighborhood scouting mission, and just about gave my stupid self frostbite in the process. DH is certain that Molly is not going to venture out any, if at all, in this cold. But I do see numerous cat prints in the snow, and somebody is coming back repeatedly to eat from the dish on the front porch. I can't stop cooking in my remodeled kitchen!!!! Here are more things I've been making. I was much more successful with this batch of fathead dough pigs in blankets than the first time (as shown in a previous post). I wrapped the weiners with raw fathead instead of partially baked. Easy and delicious! Fathead dough pizza. I'm hooked. My first attempt at jalapeno poppers. I obviously couldn't decide how to wrap them in bacon and sort of gave up. But they tasted good! Nachos made with provolone cheese instead of tortilla chips. I quartered slices of provolone and microwaved them on parchment paper until they were crisp. Then I topped them with some leftover roast and other goodies. They were awesome! Beef and veg stir fry with Chinese five spice. Chicken & veg stir fry using Chinese five spice: Gumbo is comfort food. That's not rice, however, it's shirataki (fake) rice. I've been doing lots and lots of omelets for weekend breakfasts: I used some leftover baked chicken and broccoli to make a little lunch.

I know right where my kitchen witch is. She is in a dining room drawer. This was one I got from my Mother's things that she made to match her kitchen curtains. I made I'll bet a dozen of them and gave them away, years ago. Cute. The one I have is dressed in a white dress with red apples on it. She has metal glasses my Dad made for her. He has been gone for 28 years, so she is older than that.

What's a kitchen witch? I googled, and I guess it's a little doll/puppet which is a charm to help in the kitchen? Boy, can I use this.

I'm not a good or bad cook, but after several decades I'm really bored with it. Like Stoneybaloney: see recipes that look OH SO GOOD and then when I make them ... ehhhh .... not so good! I am bored with cooking and food in general. I made ministrone this week, following a recipe, and I think it's just awful. DH likes it though.

I had a mad on when I was cooking last night...that was 99 percent of my problem...

Socks I googled them too...DANG they are expensive...I don't even remember where mine came from but I swore she brought me good luck in my cooking...I had her for years...she was grease laden...stinky...but I swore by her..

I AM a kitchen witch! Short on charm(s) but I can throw a curse on someone who comes to dinner and then announces a long list of foods they can't/won't eat.
Right now making stock. Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble . . . .
I have a kitchen mouse made of cornhusks and wearing a chef's hat. Two witches in a kitchen spoils the broth.

and yes Liz, deal me in! I need something so that I can cook a meal that DH won't find something he doesn't like! I have NEVER in my life had anyone (including kids) that didn't like my cooking, until I met him! Oh well, I just let him eat out...less work for me! Maybe a kitchen witch would do the charm...I think the curse is already on me :^)

I have one that my son's ex-girlfriend brought from Norway (her home). When he married someone else, I packed my witch and other reminders away, but after this weeks baking disasters, I think it's time to return her to the kitchen! My candy is too soft, my cookies are too hard and my crackers are too salty!! Thank the Good Lord for SEES and MRS. FIELDS!! Bettye/AZ
