I'm really missing my kitchen witch...

I know...I know..superstitions bah humbug and all that...but when I went into my kitchen and saw her sitting on my stove..things always came out like they were supposed to...I lost her during our last move 4 years ago and I aint' been able to cook worth a fart since then...last night I burned cookies...tonight they didn't cook enough...so I'm giving up on the baking and switching to non bake or stove top goodies...My candy thermometer failed me tonight...it just wouldn't register...I know that fudge mix had boiled long enough and the candy thingy was still sitting on 100 degrees...so tomorrow I'm off to find a Kitchen Witch...a new Candy Thermometer...another bundt pan and some new cookie sheets...I'd love to throw out my oven but then there would be a gaping hole in my kitchen...

So now I'm on a hunt for a kitchen witch...do you have one? should I pick up a few hundred for ya'll??

Oh,count me in, for sure.

I see recipes that look OH SO GOOD and then when I make them ... ehhhh .... not so good!

I've never tried a kitchen witch, I'd like to be pleasantly surprised!

I have never tried one either! I am a horrible cook. If she can help me, then by all means, send me one too!

The frogs may eat each other as well. If you can find crickets it is fun to feed them. Big bullfrogs can eat smaller birds and sometimes will drown bigger birds they grab but are too big to swallow. Lately all my frogs, of six years, left or were eaten by somthing and I have one lone young bullfrog. He was about 1 inch long and has grown to about 4 inches fat on worms. I call him 'The King' as he is, for now, King of the pond. He is probably offspring from the bigger frogs and no doubt would have been eaten by them if they were still around. It is a frog eat frog world:-) To attract earthworms I keep a pile of moist leaves and they congregate under them and eat the leaves. As long as the area is moist and there is plant material the earthworms stay. I also find them under potted plants that are outdoors on the edge of the pond (on the soil surface). Frogs will eat anything that moves they can fit, or partially fit, into their mouth.

This has to be one of my pet peeves about a plant. Any plant that can't stay out in the sun and heat and have the flower look decent at the end of the day should not be for sale. I understand when the temperature gets over 95 or so that the flowers may melt, but for heavens sake, daylilies are summer flowers and should be able to take average summer temperatures. Melting is gounds for disposing of a plant and one of the common reasons that they make it to my green garbage. If fact both melting and fading are features that I consider when thinning out my pots. I expect flowers to fade as the day goes on but if they turn an ugly color, they are gone. There are many plants being sold that may be O.K. when grown in a green house but are unable to face the real outside world. JoAnn

Well, I took the opportunity to sleep in again today. Can't believe the kids did too so nobody woke me up until 10am!! Been forever since I've been able to sleep that late 2 days in a row! I am eating green bean casserole for breakfast! ha I love it sooo much. I fry down my green beans with onions and bacon before I mix in the soups and fried onions and oh...they are just sooo good. I even got up and heated some up for a midnight snack! ha I did a smoked turkey breast besides the regular turkey and I'll be putting those leftovers in a turkey pot pie. Love that smokey flavor in it. Don't you love Thanksgiving! ha No wonder we all gain a few pounds at the holidays. Good job on doing that shutter freehand! It really is so pretty. I've got to get up in the attic where I stored all my stuff and find a big bag of wooden mittens I got at the TS. I'm gonna see what I can do with them to maybe use for my neighbor gifts since I am running out of time as usual. Wanted to cut out a bunch of things, but no time now. Hoping the mittens aren't too thick for what I have in mind. I got a little painting done yesterday. Got stuck on some snowmen cheeks. ha I just have such a time with those things. I did them ok, but my stupid watercolor pencil which is a dark pink turned a weird color on this project for some reason. I'm not happy with it, but it is what it is at this point. My brother and SIL came in the middle of what I was doing and she wanted help figuring out some quick ornaments and decorations she could do for her tree and house since she is hosting her family's Christmas party in a few weeks. She usually doesn't even decorate for Christmas since she doesn't like it for some reason. Her b-day is right before and she was kinda forgotten as a child with the rush and hustle of Christmas so I think that has something to do with it. I ended up not getting my tree up either. We are taking the kids to Toys-r-us today to make their Christmas lists then have to try to find DD a new coat and DS some new shoes and myself some new bath mats. I washed mine yesterday, but I've had them for a while and they came all to pieces this time. ha They were the perfect color and size too so I'm hoping I can find some more like them. All I can think about is painting so I'm gonna give up doing housework (except the bare escentials) and see if I can get some things knocked out this week. Maybe I need the last minute pressure to perform faster. ha Well, I have a mountain of books piled around me looking for the perfect pattern. Better get these put away and get ready to go. I don't see Old World either. Yours is more straightforward than that. I'd go with tone on tone for the backsplash with a feature behind your cooktop. If you look at Shelayne's (in the backsplash thread) and think more yellowish bone or off white, that would be very classic. Your local tile place (try a little high end-ish) can give you some beautiful ideas for behind the stove, even if you duplicate the look elsewhere. You may be able to do cheaper tiles from big box stores and then splurge a little for the feature part from the specialty place. Ebay has some very pretty mosaic type medallions and such on there. Your counter has pattern to it so I would go for a calm field and then a little panache behind the cooktop. What you have already is quite nice. This will be the icing on the cake ;)

I know right where my kitchen witch is. She is in a dining room drawer. This was one I got from my Mother's things that she made to match her kitchen curtains. I made I'll bet a dozen of them and gave them away, years ago. Cute. The one I have is dressed in a white dress with red apples on it. She has metal glasses my Dad made for her. He has been gone for 28 years, so she is older than that.

What's a kitchen witch? I googled, and I guess it's a little doll/puppet which is a charm to help in the kitchen? Boy, can I use this.

I'm not a good or bad cook, but after several decades I'm really bored with it. Like Stoneybaloney: see recipes that look OH SO GOOD and then when I make them ... ehhhh .... not so good! I am bored with cooking and food in general. I made ministrone this week, following a recipe, and I think it's just awful. DH likes it though.

I had a mad on when I was cooking last night...that was 99 percent of my problem...

Socks I googled them too...DANG they are expensive...I don't even remember where mine came from but I swore she brought me good luck in my cooking...I had her for years...she was grease laden...stinky...but I swore by her..

I AM a kitchen witch! Short on charm(s) but I can throw a curse on someone who comes to dinner and then announces a long list of foods they can't/won't eat.
Right now making stock. Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble . . . .
I have a kitchen mouse made of cornhusks and wearing a chef's hat. Two witches in a kitchen spoils the broth.

and yes Liz, deal me in! I need something so that I can cook a meal that DH won't find something he doesn't like! I have NEVER in my life had anyone (including kids) that didn't like my cooking, until I met him! Oh well, I just let him eat out...less work for me! Maybe a kitchen witch would do the charm...I think the curse is already on me :^)

I have one that my son's ex-girlfriend brought from Norway (her home). When he married someone else, I packed my witch and other reminders away, but after this weeks baking disasters, I think it's time to return her to the kitchen! My candy is too soft, my cookies are too hard and my crackers are too salty!! Thank the Good Lord for SEES and MRS. FIELDS!! Bettye/AZ
