Cat Urine in Carpet
Comments (11)We had brand new carpet installed several years ago. Within a month, my cat got sick and urinated on the carpet. We thought we'd have to rip it all up and replace it, it was that bad. When I took the cat to the vet, I asked about the carpet. She gave me a can of spray, I think it was called The Equalizer or something similar. Used a black light to find the spots that needed spraying. I sprayed them and it completely removed the smell. I've never seen this product in stores, but I am sure a vet would have something that will take care of it. I am sorry your kitty too, they are members of the family and seeing them sick is heartbreaking. I lost one to cancer in Aug and I still miss her terribly....See MoreCat Throw-up on New Carpet
Comments (6)First, let me say that I am a cat vomit cleaning expert. We have two cats and if one isn't throwing up the other is! I would strongly recommend investing in a Bissel cleaner. Even if you just get the Little Green Clean Machine. On to the problem...depending on how long it sits and what came out of kitty will determine what you need to do. If you can get to the accident right away and its not liquidy, simply scooping it up and using some Bissel Fabric & Upholstery cleaner (found in most grocery stores in a blue can with a little brush on top) will do the trick. For more heavy duty situations, scoop up the chunks and pour a little of the Bissel machine cleaning solution on the spot and gently massage in with your fingers. Let that sit for about 10 minutes, then use the Bissel machine on the spot, preferably with the heat option if it has it. The Bissel solution smells nice and clean and should remove the fishy smell ASAP. The condo we use to live had white W2W carpet and you would have never known we had an incontinent dog and a bulimic cat. Good Luck!...See MoreAnyone have frieze carpet upstairs? I need your help!!
Comments (5)We installed Friese throughout our upper level as well as the stairs and love it! We've had it for 2.5 years and if you look closely you can see where we walk the most on the stairs, but it doesn't bother us because it doesn't show any dirt, feels so soft on your feet and it still looks/feels brand new. No offense but I hate Berber because it lacks all of the qualities that the Frieze has. And for years I've heard the professionals push the Berber claiming it's easier to maintain and cleans well, but I've yet to seen an installation that proves that to be true. On the other hand, we have an older cat that has gotten sick a couple of times on our Frieze and it cleaned really well. We took a tiny bit of laundry detergent watered down on a wet towel, blotted out the mess and then blotted it dry afterward and it cleaned beautifully. I would have happily installed it on the entry level as well, but we have wood flooring. Instead, I'm considering having a large piece cut & bound to use as a rug in our living room....See MoreGetting rid of strong cat urine oder in carpets...
Comments (4)The options that I know of are an enzyme based odor eliminator like natures miracle, Odoban, or replacing the carpet and carpet pad. The enzyme cleaner needs something like 24-48 hours to work, meaning it needs to stay wet with product for that time. The Odoban is a disinfectant solution that has never failed me for difficult odors. I get this at home depot for $10 for a concentrated gallon. You dilute and apply, and let dry. The more concentrated, and more heavily you apply, the better chance of complete odor removal in one application. Or you can replace the old carpeting, AND pad, as this will really hold the ammonia salts from the urine, clean and seal the subfloor with killz, and recarpet. Urine, and especially cat urine has a reputation for being difficult. So it my require multiple applications of product to get rid of the scent, it may smell clean finally, but with summer heat and humidity or rain, the smell can almost reactivate and you can detect it again. Sorry you have to deal with cat urine...the things cats parents deal with!!! On another note, peeing somewhere they are not supposed to usually means something is wrong. Could be not having enough litter boxes, an illness or stress from a new person, or moving, diet change, something like that. Good Luck and I hope my advice has helped....See MoreSapphireStitch
