Mammogram prescription--do these expire?

I have a prescription for a mammogram. My doc gave it to me in September 2019. If I don't get it done by September 2020, does it expire?

Call the mammogram office and ask. How would we know what's specific to your doctor and their services?

Jan~You oughta know that you can say whatever here. We all love you for who you are. You know you never hear about the 4 hurricanes that we went through in 2004. There was a lot of devastation then too. All of them hit within 6 weeks. As DH says, actually the 4th was not a hurricane by the time it hit, it had gone around & come back as a tropical storm, I believe. But, still it hasn't ever happened before & I hope not again. Dee~It was SO sweet to come here & see that you had said hi to Dave & me. I certainly appreciated it. Just want you to know. Hi Raeanne~You haven't said much. Are you staying busy? I have misplaced the wedding album of Dave & Me. I was redoing it in b&w & have all the b&w pics but have no clue what I did with the original album. Say a prayer please that I find it. I am not a happy camper today. It is not very often that I say that. The snowbirds are starting to come back. There will be a few things going on this month & then more & more will be happening from then on. I'm excited about it & yet this summer went by so quickly & I still have so much yet to do. Good morning all! Well, I lived through the convention. I didn't get elected to a state directorship position (I was nominated, just didn't tell anyone), and I did get elected to treasurer from my district. The classes were great, and getting to see old friends is always fun. We stayed at a really nice, chain hotel, and Friday was quiet. Then Chuck-E-Cheese h3ll started on Saturday morning, and you know you're in for it when the door on the room next to yours has a sign that says "THE PARTY IS HERE", and the door is open enough to see about 6 screaming kids between 10 to 14 jumping on beds. The hotel was simply overrun with drinking, oblivious parents, and out-of-control kids. My roommate (who is a public school teacher, and has been one for 41 years)and I were appalled. I asked at the desk, and the desk told me that it (the hotel) had become the breeding ground for parents to get a room on a weekend night, hunker down with other drinking prarents, and let the kids run wild. That was why I had to sign a 'rules' list when I checked in. Unreal. If this is our future, then I shudder. OK--off my box--and if I sound harsh, then I apologize. Nothing will get my goat faster than rude behavior. The Fort Knox show was great--lovely people on post. They have my admiration and gratitude. I was talking with one vendor, and her DH is getting deployed mid-Dec to the middle East. imstillchloethecat- I am happy for your good health and appreciate your responsible attention to being proactive about your health. However, that being said, you do know that you are not guaranteed no health issues in the future? And I do hope that you are not smugly assuming that the people posting about their prescription issues are not as responsible as you? Maybe you did not mean to be offensive. Yes, I know you belatedly added "sometimes" at the end of your post but it still reeked of condescension and smugness. Of COURSE it is better to practice fit, healthy lifestyles and yes it improves your odds. But there are no magic guarantees. I wish there were. I practice all of the above... Exercise, meditation, organic vegetarian diet, weight control, no smoking, NO GMO's, no transfats, a glass of wine a couple days a week, etc etc. And yet ovarian cancer got me anyway. So don't think that you are superior to the rest of us. You are...so far...lucky.

Call same day surgery for an appointment for a sonogram. They will call the doc for an order. DONE. Sounds like they will find an order in the computer...so they won't have to call the doc. I prefer to have my mammogram and labs done before my appointment so when I am there she has all in information on me there is to have.

If I remember correctly, I think you no longer have to have a referral for a mammogram. If you have insurance, it's supposed to be covered. Call the center and ask, they'll have the best answers.

And if you need to have a referral, they can call and get it for you.

I think it lasts a year. Same as a prescription for eye glasses.

My doctor told me the order is good for a year. He told me that I needed a baseline this year and gave me the order, but told me that if I choose not to go this year, he would give me another one next year. I went ahead and got it over with. But in your case i would ask when I call to make the appointment.

I was told years ago that a mammogram was just about the only test you don't need a dr's prescription for. I haven't had a prescription for one for quite a few years - I just get my yearly reminder and I make an appt. and go. They send results to my PCP.

Just for information but when I had mine last year the machine was a little different. I was given a hand device which allowed me to regulate the pressure rather than just being placed between the plates and the tech deciding how much pressure to apply. It did make a difference. You would still need to be uncomfortable to get the best picture. If making appointments ask if that is available.

I was told that it was commonly used. First time I had ever seen it.

You might not need a new prescription from your doctor, or it might not be required by the mammogram department to have a prescription...

But you might want to check with your insurance company on how the appointment needs to be handled for them to cover the visit. Some may require a more recent prescription, or may not allow self-referral for covered visits. Some might be perfectly OK with you not having a prescription or being self-referred.
