+1 If the tiles are 9" by 9", the are likely ACM (Asbestos Containing Materials). The tiles themselves are not the real issue because they are not very friable. The Mastic is the issue and caution should be taken when removing that as the previous poster mentioned. As a general rule, if the mastic is black, get it tested at a minimum.

Sophie Wheeler- do you know anything about grinding the surface? Is there a machine that would sand down the rough areas? I would like to do that whether or not we epoxy it. What type of contractor would I need to do that? I guess I should add that my kids are all 4 and under so for now they do end up on the floor which is why I was thinking the cleaner epoxy method might be useful. From these comments, it seems like epoxy isn't as durable as I was hoping? I ideally just wanted it to be outdoor durable but a little bit clean since I am sure they will be all over it.

I think everyone agonizes over their choices. Maybe you can post photos of the space, the color stain you are using on the cabinets and put it all up together in the room, then you'll get more commenters Otherwise, I do like the floor color...light and bright. You're doing rugs anyways (I'd assume), so the subtleness of the floor is great. I have real dark walnut stained wood floors, and while they are gorgeous, you see every spec of dust, cat hair, foot smudges in the light, etc. I'll be going lighter next time.
