Roses in cedar raised beds: pros and cons

I am thinking of building cedar raised "boxes or planters" for my vegetables. I wonder if this is a good idea for my roses as well. I do live in a cold zone and wonders if it will potentially "freeze the roots" since they would be above ground. I am aware of wood rots over the years but are there other "issues" that I should be aware of as well. Your response is much appreciated.
