Soil quality after remodel (construction dust, stucco, paint, etc.)?

Curious if anyone knows what, if any, issues typically present themselves with soil quality after a major remodel. Do we need to be concerned about pH levels or whatever from whatever was washed off into our dirt during the project? We're in SoCal and wastewater runoff restrictions are tight, but I'm fairly sure our contractors just hosed down their tools and paintbrushes into the dirt a lot of times.

Our first clue something might be amiss was after planting a dozen donated foxglove agaves (which were in perfect condition and normally grow without a problem here). Now, the agaves are drooping and just looking a little sickly. The master gardener in our area thinks it's just a matter of time before they'll resurrect, but I don't know...they look worse by the week. Just wondering if we need to do a soil analysis before we start adding more plants? Thanks!
