These were new leaves from 2"-7" long,very green and very healthy.All of last years leaves have fallen off. As for the black tips, some were tiny claws and others were maybe 1"-2" long leaves. The good news is that the leaves have stopped falling off as of maybe 3 days ago but for 3-4 days it lost 10+ a day. It was very cold here this winter,30's at night for several days,would that cause this? Weed and feed? I have not had a problem in the past with lawn fertilizer. Should I have not used 15-15-15 fertilizer on it? Thanks for your reply.....Jerry

Hi Brett I have my plants plunged into the ground to keep them from being knocked over in winds..and to take up if we have a freeze again. buttt. I did not cut the bottom off. Is still a pot, that can sit on a patio. Being you have cut the bottom off, roots may grow into the ground, or you may have to carefully up root into a new container to put away when its cold.. Now I don't know if you did it right, or I did it wrong.. not sure. Karen B.

Hi and welcome. Do you know what kind your plants are? I think our resident North Carolinian is Mona. She is a regular poster and will be able to give great advice tailored to your locale. Fertilizers can be made as complex or simple as you want it. As you get more comfortable with your new Plumerias you can always experiment with other fertilizers but for right now I would look for a more forgiving balanced fertilizer such as Osmacote 14-14-14 or use what you have and adjust longer the application schedule AND cut the dosage down by at least half to prevent salt build up in your soil. Leaves turning brown from the bottom of the plant are easily surmised as they are done and the plant no longer has use for them. If it continues past the bottom most leaves then it could be other issues such as too much or too little water. The best thing is be consistent and observe then adjust until you come up with your sweetspot. Good luck.

Hmmm... what has your watering schedule been like? The first thing that comes to mind is possibly over / under watering due to the droopiness of the leaves but it is odd that the other branches are fine. In your second picture, that leaf that's curled with the black part on it almost makes me think it's got too much water but it's hard to say for sure so that's why I ask. Good drainage? Is there anything that could be reflecting heat on that branch - the windows? Have you applied any fertilizer or pesticides? Hard to see in the pics but are the black specks on the inflo just where flowers fell off or have you been dropping buds?
