Motorized shades and color to high arched & low rectangular windows
Comments (18)Lynartist, let me throw another lifestyle issue into the mix. We have two cats that will certainly get hair on the bottom of the curtains, but I can begrudgingly clean those regularly. The bigger fear is that one decides to climb and snags or tears the material. I can only be present with the water spray bottle/cat training tool for so many hours of the day. I do like your idea of treating the area as a whole rather than parsing out separate window ideas. I've been using this site and post to begin learning about options, vocabulary, concepts for these windows. Your advice, and that of others, is greatly appreciated. Now that I am somewhat armed with a starter set of ideas I'll reach out to a professional in the area, but am still interested in getting more ideas. I always content that it is good to be part of a team. Cheers....See Moremotorized privacy blinds/shades/what?
Comments (6)As to your ... empathy extended. You don't want to be reaching up for shades and the newer mini-blinds don't even have strings -- you have to reach up for them as well.. You need to be able to open and close whatever window treatment you have standing at the side of the window. Consider either vertical blinds or drapes designed to pull open and closed from a side cord. Vertical blinds can be vinyl (relatively inexpensive) or wood or faux wood or fabric. Whether they are suitable depends upon your style/decor. Drapes could also have sheers on an inner rod for a bit of daytime privacy but could be closed at night or on a cloudy day when the lights are on for even more privacy. With the right rod, you could open and close them w/o reaching up. https://www.wayfair.com/Symple-Stuff--Bembry-Heavy-Duty-Single-Curtain-Rod-and-Hardware-Set-31131-L6262-K~W002066057.html?refid=GX294078696632-W002066057&device=c&ptid=820037231436&network=g&targetid=aud-354999624471:pla-820037231436&channel=GooglePLA&ireid=87285191&fdid=1817&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhIHjtafy5AIVyODICh0eRQfqEAkYAyABEgJkCPD_BwE...See MoreMotorized blinds are eating batteries-suggested retrofits?
Comments (16)Wondering if you ever found a solution? I have a whole house that came with HunterDouglas Powerview motorized shades, they are very nice and work well but they literally consume batteries (12 each) on a pretty much monthly basis and we don't even open and close them most days. It's ridiculous, wasteful, expensive and a huge pain in the butt because you usually realize they are dead when you go to open a window that has the blind all the way down making them hard to get to without damaging the shade. There are the rechargeable battery wands now but they are very pricey plus a charger and I have 7 windows to do. I really wish we just had basic manuals at this point or there was a way to manually operate these when they are out of battery. Replacing all the blinds isn't an option either. I can't seem to find a knockoff reasonably priced rechargeable battery wand either....See MoreQMotion Motorized Blinds - Great Customer Service
Comments (3)@Michel Gavillet - I was working with a designer so I ordered them through her. If you google QMotion, you can locate dealers located close to you. I wouldn't personally order through the internet - there is selection of fabric; measurement and installation....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
