Third vote for side sconces. Much more flattering, which is nice because who wants to see a ghoul when looking in the mirror, and also the lighting is more thorough and even so you can see your makeup better and thus not overdo or underdo it. Also, 32" seems too deep. It's too far to sit from the mirror. Even 24" is too far and I can tell you that because I'm sitting at a 24" desk right now and I just tested the concept by setting a hand mirror I happen to have up at face height against the wall behind my desk... and it is definitely too far away for me to put on makeup well. If I had a vanity that size I would lean well forward to put my makeup on, which gets hard on your back after a while. But you do need to have the mirror against that back wall or at most a couple of inches from it, because it should be a couple of inches behind the lights, or at most level with the lights, in order to get the best lighting. The other possible issue is that in a vanity that deep, either things will get lost at the backs of drawers or the person sitting at it will have to pull the drawers out to their full lengths (so, counting the part of the drawer that remains inside the vanity, they would be sticking out a good 20" when extended to find stuff in the back). It really only needs to be deep enough to sit at comfortably. That probably means roughly 4" to 7" deeper than the length of the thigh of the person who will be sitting there, to leave enough room for her feet and some freedom of movement. (I mean the length of the thigh as measured from the front of her hip when she's sitting down.) You could mock it up to get a better idea, or perhaps go to some stores (furniture stores, antique stores--there are lots of antique vanities around) with a measuring tape to see what feels most comfortable for her. Oh wait. I just re-read your post and saw you wrote 32" t. As in tall. Not deep. Ok... so nevermind! :-)

Good to see you with another project! Just to play devil's advocate, and because IIRC your kids are two boys just a tad older than my 2 boys. Do they really need better organization for their stuff? Is this wishful thinking on your part, that if they had different space, their stuff wouldnt be all over the counter everywhere like an explosion? My boys' bathroom looks like that- I close my eyes to it and make them clean it once a week. The rest of the time it looks like what it is, a bathroom that belongs to two teen boys. And I have two brothers- their bathroom looked like that and they are both very neat clean organized adults. VERY! So being a pig when you are 14 -18 does not predict that you will be a slob as an adult. With all that said, I am not sure I like the tall tower separating the toilet from the vanity. I think it might be claustrophopic. I think that if the storage isnt accessible while they are at the sink they wont use it- well they might take things that you put inside out but I doubt they will put them back. What do they need to store? What about a shallow tower between the two sinks? Maybe with an enclosed outlet and a designated space for the presumed electric toothbrush and blowdryer? Do they have electric razors too? If not a single shallow tower in between the two sinks, what about a set of shallow shelves from counter up for each sink. When my remodel is done, my DW will be at the end of a run, next to the wall. It will probably add a minute, maybe two, to the unload time as all but the daily dishes/cutlery/glassware will be a tad farther of a walk to put away. But I don't care as the advantages will totally outweigh the disadvantages. I disagree with your KD. Strongly. I currently have my DW between my sink and range and it is the most hated thing in my kitchen. Everybody hates it, not just me. And when I say everybody, I mean my parents (who owned this house before me), my sister and her entire family, and my entire family. Plus all our kid's spouses. That's 14 people who have all voiced hatred for the DW placement. When my niece's husband, who was a chef before he became an engineer, heard we were remodeling the kitchen actually called me up to remind me to move that damn DW. And he's only cooked in it a few times. I remember he commented that it's poor placement from both a chef's and engineer's perspective (for whatever that's worth, lol). That is the only time he's actually ever called me. At the time, I didn't know where else to put it but the good folks here guided me to the new location. In fact, if the DW placement was good to begin with, I would probably have just redecorated my kitchen instead of remodeling. Of course, I'm getting other good things out of the remodel (like a prep sink) but I'm pretty frugal and would have probably saved the expense of it all if the DW placement hadn't been so annoying. If you use the sink on the window wall for prepping most often because you're facing the fabulous view (and who wouldn't?), the DW will NOT be able to be left open for immediate loading. You will need to keep the door closed most of the time and pop it open to load. If you're prepping and someone is loading/unloading or even just popping it open quickly to pop something in, it often coincides with the moment I need to get some water for my prepping. If you had a much longer counter between sink and cooktop, it might make some sense. But you don't. It will be crowded. And note that I have 54" between sink and range so I have more space to move over when that DW door is open. You have only 39". 36" is the MINIMUM recommended by the NKBA. You really can't afford to lose work space there if you want to use it for prepping. Of course, you will have the option of moving over to the other sink to do that but then that also adds extra unnecessary steps. And if you are prepping and have to move over for someone to do stuff with the DW, you might as well move all your prep work there because it also cuts into the available counter space unless you don't mind leaning instead of standing in front of what you're prepping. I don't understand the view argument. If you use your DW properly, as DW manufacturer's recommend, you'll be spending little time at the sink as you should scrape, not rinse, before loading. Washing fruit and veg doesn't take long. I wish I could remember the statistics exactly but studies have shown that prep time is something like 70% of the time spent in the kitchen with the remainder divided between cooking (like when you're standing at the stove, not counting unattended oven time) and cleaning up. So the majority of your time will be in the prep area, not in front of the sink or at the DW. For that short period of time, you won't miss the view. Ha! Can you tell I feel strongly about this? It's your kitchen. I would never do it in my kitchen. I hope you won't regret your decision.

Ikea vanity looks really nice. Thanks for sharing. We looked at vanities from Wayfair, AllModern, Ikea, etc., but opted to work with a local woodworker. It felt good to support a neighborhood artisan. When we come up for air we'll have him craft built-ins and purchased add'l Walnut with that in mind. At this point the Brio valves are roughed in for the shower and wall mount lav faucet so there's no turning back. To clarify, my question is when pairing an undermount sink with a wall mounted faucet and 24x20 countertop for use in a master bath - what's the most functional shape or is there no discernible difference?
