Newly planted Sweetheart cherry has yellow leaves.

Hi, I planted a Sweetheart cherry tree a couples weeks ago and now the leaves are turning yellow. Doesn't look like fungus. Maybe it's getting over watered? Please help. Thanks in advance.

Considering it was transplanted in full growth it actually looks pretty good. Losing a few leaves is hardly surprising. Just keep it well watered and shaded if the weather’s hot.

One more try at soliciting your help... I have some conflicting info that maybe you can help me with. I went to Home Depot, and they recommended I spray Bonide Fruit Tree Spray (listed ingredients Captan, Malathion, and Carbaryl). I then went to a local gardening store, and they recommended Summit Year-Round Spray Oil. I can't see any insects on the tree during the day, but it was suggested that they're coming out at night. Seems to me the oil application wouldn't do much if the insects aren't actually on the tree? I'd prefer not to use a chemical pesticide, but also want an application to be effective. Any thoughts?

suburbanrancher, it's advised that the best time to repot (since, as you say Meyers seem to always be in some state of flowering) is during a dormant period just following fruit set and just before the next flush of leaves. This usually corresponds to early summer (around June or thereabouts). jkom, what an interesting question you ask about in-ground vs pot ripening times for IMLs. I actually have 3 Meyers in the ground and one that's potted, and I had every intention of (taking it a step further and) making this a full-time houseplant. After all, I'm able to successfully flower both a Cattleya orchid and a plumeria (no longer alive) at an East/Southwest facing window so I'd hoped to successfully fruit the Meyer at this location. But I've chickened out (and my potted Meyer is now an all-outdoor plant), as nobody's seemed to have done 100% indoor cultivation of a Meyer and gotten it to fruit - if anyone has evidence otherwise, I'd love to know! Maybe I should just do the experiment to determine the answer for myself...and also answer your fruit-timing question. Tim

Love your Bottlebrush tree! I noticed in your pictures that you have the mulch all the way up to the trunk. Maybe you might try clearing it out leaving a clean 12 inch diameter around the trunk. It sounds like you are doing all the right things though. I planted two Bottlebrush trees last year and they both had some yellow leaves after planting too. I wouldn't be too concerned. I watered mine every two days for about a month and then twice a week throughout the summer and I have clay soil here in the Houston area. I did amend the soil with some quality potting soil mix before planting and fertilized twice so far with MicroLife fertilizer (made in Texas!). Good luck with your new tree! Meyer lemon recently planted, now has yellowing leaves

2 weeks after planting. Start out at half strength Miracle Gro 24-8-16. It has the perfect ratio for Meyer lemon trees. In one week again at 3/4 dose and every week at 3/4 dose. full dose is 1 tablespoon per gallon of water. Meyer lemon trees are extra heavy feeders and do well at 1.5 table spoons per gallon every other week. Water around the drip-line of your branches and not at the trunk. trees should be planted.. in a perfect world... when dormant ... but.. you do what you have to do.. when you have time to do it ...

the biggest upside to leafless dormancy .. is you avoid the planting stresses to the leaves .. in other words... you never see it ...

we can not tell you how to water in your yard.. your location.. your soil .. dig some small holes with a hand trowel or tablespoon .. AND FIND OUT is there is moisture at root depth ... adjust watering appropriately ... dig the hole in undug surrounding soil. and in the gob planted .... it should be properly mulched ...

i agree .. it looks great considering what it been thru ...

it is severely stressed.. not hungry.. fert is not a response ...

and slathering on goos trying to solve a leaf issue that isnt there.. will only stress it more ...

That’s how my peach tree looked last year. The leaves dropped very early. This year it started the same thing but now looks like X-disease developing. Good luck and keep us posted please.
