Need a large house plant
Comments (26)Hey everyone! Thanks so much for all your kind compliments. I'm loving the way the livingroom turned out. The furniture companies put me through the ringer, a July through Feb. ringer but it was worth it. I went to the only nursery near me and they only seemed to have bushy trees in right now so I tried my two local Home Depot. The only palm they sell is majesty palm. So I'm not sure if the plants I purchased are any of the ones recommended. One of them said bird of paradise but I'm not sure if thats what it is. I saw a yucca and a cane palm but they didn't seem big enough they were small. They had a few small ponytail palms that were really cute but they didn't look healthy. Not that I know what healthy is LOL but I don't think most of the leaves are suppose to be dry and brown half way up. If someone would like to tell me what I ended up getting that would be great! Are they birds of paradise like the side of the plant says. I hope they live. (crosses fingers) . . ....See MoreWhy are small bathroom mirrors are 'better' than a large one?
Comments (41)Lots of replies! In our master bath we have a rectangular mirror with a pretty frame. Then because the space is only about 4 ft. wide with a wall on both sides, I had the workers put an inset medicine cabinet on each side. When I want to see the sides or back of my hair I just open the appropriate side mirror. And we each have our own medicine cabinet! Works for me. Plus it reflects lots of light from the sconces on each side of the framed mirror. I also had them tile up that area under the framed mirror about a foot high. Keeps lots of water splashes off the mirror. Looks nicer too because the tile has a beautiful 3 inch high band of "deco" tile that continues around the 3 sides of the area. There is just one sink in the counter area because my husband and I are hardly ever needing the sink at the same time. We separated the toilet, tub, shower part of the bath from the sink with a pocket door so that while one is in there, the other can be using the sink without a steamed up mirror and all. It works great. I had seen this set-up in some motels and liked it a lot. Makes the bathroom do double duty!...See MoreHome Trends for 2015: Large Format Tile on the Exterior Walls
Comments (18)Tile rainscreens have been used on commercial buildings in the US for many decades and for much longer in Europe and Southeast Asia but these systems have been far too expensive for the home market. What a rain screen does is increase the rate of moisture removal within a wall by creating a narrow continuous air space on the exterior side of the building weather barrier and on the interior side of the wall cladding. The wall cladding joints are not sealed and are open at the top and bottom. When tile is used as the cladding it hangs on a metal frame with lapped joints so there are no grout joints and the tile is self cleaning. These systems are usually proprietary and patented and they usually require factory trained and certified installers. Here are the details for the Laminam CS45D rain screen cladding system. (I believe the support systems are designed locally and the panels are from Italy) PLAN SECTION...See MoreNeed suggestions for Kitchen Flooring and House Exteriors
Comments (17)Thanks for everyone's ideaLily'smom @cpartist We made our decisions on the flooring, front doors, window and stone brick exteriors :) but now deciding on bricks, trim and body color..and looks like it will start building in mid Aug! 1. We decided to do the flooring after close so we have more choices and time to decide. and we are not stuck with the chocolate color wood flooring. However, we had to find other things to upgrade to make up for the cost of the wood flooring.. 2. We went with the 7 ft windows, the architect suggested centering it, so it would be about a 1.5 ft from the floor and 1/5 ft from window top to ceiling. 3. Got the 8 ft front door and eliminated the transom 4.We decided to just do the front porch entry area with an Austin Cream stone. So now we are doing our brick selections...so far we have picked the bricks, trim color and body color as follow: Any comments on the trim and brick color? We wanted a light color garage, so we picked that light grey - alphaca color Trim / metal window roof/ shutter color: Taupe Tone Body color / stucco parts in window and window above the garage/garage door: light grey - alphaca color Bricks: Addison We drove around a couple times to make our brick selections, we picked 2 that we liked but the builder said its not available anymore...we were going for something lighter and not as much variation. so we have chosen one that would look like this+ Austin Cream stones and this was our other lighter option but more variation: Any thoughts?...See MoreIlya
