My first bloom on my first antique rose!
Comments (9)Reines has bloomed! :) It smells so wonderful! Ingrid, I have 2 antiques and then an Easy Does It, Strike it Rich, 2 knock outs and a tea rose. First year they're all in the ground so it's taking longer for them to bloom but so much fun coming home each day and seeing what treat my garden has in store. :)...See MoreIf you were planning your first rose garden...
Comments (63)If you are looking at any roses, look for fragrance and disease resistance. I have Molineaux a golden yellow Austin rose that is fairly disease resistant and has a fragrance. Here is a short list of roses that have done well on LI, NY in the County Extension Demonstration garden. If you do decide to do any mail order-- try to get your order in to these companies by December/January at the latest. By the time April rolls around, many of the more popular roses have sold out already. Ordering early 'reserves your rose' and you can request when the company can send it to you-- if you have snow on the ground in April, maybe by the end of April might be better for you. Just put it in their notation area. Comments (5)Tiffanyrose, Thank YOU! I had such a good laugh after reading your post. Because finally I realized what I've been missing out on. Like you, I'm a newbie and several of my plants have suffered. Not due to lack of love, but due to my ignorance/inexperience. Since my spruce started dying 2 weeks ago, I've been really discouraged. But hey, look, my lilacs are still (barely) alive, my grass is finally growing and my viburnums are still green. And my composting works! I really, really like your attitude. And congratulations on your lavender, pumpkin and sunflower!...See MoreMy First Rose Garden Photos (Continued)
Comments (8)First of all that is one of the most beautiful and healthy gardens I've seen (puts mine to shame...seriously!)Your Jude the Obscure looks like the pictures I've seen that made be ignore thats its prone to black spot, and just go for it! Stunning! And your Twilight Zone is also 5x bigger than mine! I must be doing something wrong haha! Secondly, I'm a little concerned about where I've placed some of my English roses. I thought Jude the Obscure was suppossed to stay under 4ft?? I may have a problem...LOL! Thanks to you and your granddaughter for sharing, Tammy...See MoreVaporvac Z6-OhioRiverValley
