I think I've decided I like the flavor of yard longs better ...
Comments (5)Glad to hear that your yardlongs are doing well, Dennninmi. It sure is a good year for them in our neck of the woods. What variety(s) did you grow? While I am a big fan of yardlongs, I wouldn't go so far as to say that I prefer them to P. vulgaris snaps. Both have their distinctive flavors & textures, but I still prefer 'green beans' as a vegetable side dish. Normally, those snaps would be bearing early, followed by the yardlongs. But this year, the yardlongs started at the end of July, and I have yet to pick a snap. Furthermore, given frequent deep irrigation (a trick I learned during the flooding of 2010), the pod quality has been outstanding, and the plants are loaded. Isn't bean diversity a wonderful thing? ;-)...See MoreI've recovered (I think!)
Comments (22)My favorite is when the officiant is probably announcing them as husband and wife and they are both smiling and so happy. What a wonderful, colorful party it was. I do plan on writing a review, however, I don't know that it will deter many from the venue. My suggestion was more than just a yelp style review, I meant actually speaking with Bob, or writing him, and suggesting where he could make improvements in the process for everyone's benefit - his and future renters. Golddust is right, he needs written guidelines, and your suggestions might help him define them. Maybe you could become his (paid) party consultant for elaborate events!...See MoreHad some of the best ribs I've ever had tonight
Comments (12)I know a lot of people use a pressure cooker for ribs and it makes for quick ribs (and other foods). I thought about buying a pressure cooker, especially an electric one but decided against it. I usually brown the ribs, give them a seasoning rub, then into the Nesco and slow cook for a couple of hours. Buffets, Inc. closed down over 80 of their locations but all of the ones in MN stayed open. Guess we patronize them enough to stay open. It's interesting to see peoples' choices. I'm not into "people watching" much but sometimes get a kick out of how people dine. I used to be one who liked ribs drenched in sauce. After trying the "Memphis style" at Chili's I enjoyed them so much I went on a search for different rubs (and found hundreds, well, way more than that!) and now experiment with different rubs. I sometimes add some sauce afterward. And I'm really a fan of country style ribs and yes I know they're technically more of a "chop" but when you cook 'em like ribs and the pork boys are satisfied with the name, that's good enough for me. Hi Sooey. I like the Cook's Country and America's Test Kitchen shows and agree, they have a good website. They don't talk down to you like so many of the cooking shows do, they seem to try to teach. Some of their recipes get a little overboard to get the "perfect" whatever but I still pick up some tips and stuff from the show. Once you know the basics of making ribs, they're not difficult. And usually they're always good if cooked tender. (I'm still full from yesterday!) :)...See MoreI've had a limequat all this time...Hobby...I figured it out bc of you
Comments (17)Steve, I don't think they are trying to be sneaky, I just think their labeling is confusing. What the lady told me (which I already knew) is that they flavor of the limequat is similar to that of the key lime and that by crossing the two, they make it more cold tolerant for those up north. For my area, it makes no difference bc neither can survive, but maybe those a little south of me can get away with planting it in the grown. I still want a regular key lime though......See MoreDillybeansown (6b in the Ozarks)
