I'm envious, cynic. Not because of the ribs, but because of the restaurant. They closed the one I went to down about 10 years ago, and I miss it.

My Old Country Buffet was replaced with another restaurant , the second is also closed. In case anyone makes ribs, I pe-cook mine in the pressure cooker, then barbeque or broil. Season or sauce any way you like.

Those ribs sound wonderful! I have just gotten into bbq ribs this past year and am always on the hunt for the best rub and/or sauce. Good ribs are a yummy, yummy joy to eat!

I just discovered Americas Test Kitchen web site. They have some really good recipies and they even show you exactly how to do it. For some reason, when it comes to ribs, rubs and sauces, I needed a lot of direction and help. Now that I have done it a few times I don't hesitate to make my own. Sure love the way my house smells as it all cooks.

But on the other hand...going out to eat and finding good ribs on the menu is just as good. I hope you go back for more!

I know a lot of people use a pressure cooker for ribs and it makes for quick ribs (and other foods). I thought about buying a pressure cooker, especially an electric one but decided against it. I usually brown the ribs, give them a seasoning rub, then into the Nesco and slow cook for a couple of hours.

Buffets, Inc. closed down over 80 of their locations but all of the ones in MN stayed open. Guess we patronize them enough to stay open. It's interesting to see peoples' choices. I'm not into "people watching" much but sometimes get a kick out of how people dine.

I used to be one who liked ribs drenched in sauce. After trying the "Memphis style" at Chili's I enjoyed them so much I went on a search for different rubs (and found hundreds, well, way more than that!) and now experiment with different rubs. I sometimes add some sauce afterward. And I'm really a fan of country style ribs and yes I know they're technically more of a "chop" but when you cook 'em like ribs and the pork boys are satisfied with the name, that's good enough for me.

Hi Sooey. I like the Cook's Country and America's Test Kitchen shows and agree, they have a good website. They don't talk down to you like so many of the cooking shows do, they seem to try to teach. Some of their recipes get a little overboard to get the "perfect" whatever but I still pick up some tips and stuff from the show.

Once you know the basics of making ribs, they're not difficult. And usually they're always good if cooked tender.

I've never had much success with finding anything on ATK website. You have to pay to join, or subscribe to their magazine, as far as I know.
I love their show, when I remember to watch it. It's on at 1pm on Sundays which isn't always a good time for us.

Jasdip, you don't have to pay, join or subscribe. Yes, some of the content is for subscribers only, but there is available to anyone. And also, some things you might not get the recipe list (it'll be blurred) but if you look at the top, they'll let you watch the video of them doing it and the thing I like about ATK/CC/CI is they give the full recipe amounts on the show unlike many others who give part of it. Yes, you'll have to jot it down as you watch it rather than copy and paste, but that doesn't bother me.

Oh you make my mouth water~~~ They also closed our Old Country Buffet a long time ago. I can't do many spices because of my Barrett's, but I do like some from time to time. YMMMMM!

not really since we usually go to the same places 99% of the time...but we do have a wonderful rib dinner at the local broasted chicken place...that and their mi cherry salad!

we have a gift card for the texas roadhouse, which if i'm feeling better, might do this weekend...i'd aleady looked up the menu, and it's huge!

Cynic, I found this CopyKat recipe that is supposed to be like Old Country Buffet's ribs. It should be the 2nd recipe down. If you try it let me know if it is near the real thing or not. Enjoy!

I love ribs, one of my favorite meals... and lucky for me.... My Larry makes the best ribs and bbq I ever put my teeth to...He makes his own rub and smokes them in a cooker for a long time... and they are never ever dry... always wonderfully moist, but with a bit of that awesome crisp on the edges...not fallin off the b one, but so so tender... and not too sweet not hot or spicy...just plain lip smacking yummy...

Thanks mammie. I don't think that's how these were prepared (they have a lot of different types of ribs) but it could be similar to their recipe for the sauce. It's a nice simple recipe and I might give it a try this summer but I'll probably doctor it up a bit. My usual BBQ sauce recipe needs to be cooked so I don't make it very often.

CountrySunshine, ribs are a real comfort food. I enjoy making them, and eating them (when they're good!)

I've been cooking my ribs on edge, on their bones in the slow-cooker so the fat drains off. I put a dry rub on them first.

Cook several hours, then lay them on a cookie sheet, slather with some sauce and broil to crisp up the sauce a smidge.
Oh, so good.
