Building a Home Design Dilemma Bathrooms

I have a wall space of 8' 6" for a double vanity. Need design help!

Okay guys, please help! We have a wall space of 8' 6 give to take an inch or 2 since it is a complete remodel. to the right will be a glass screen shower and to the left will be a wall with the water closet (toilet) on the other side. I am having the hardest time finding vanity options. Everything I like is completely custom and that is not in our budget. I like the floating look but don't like the super modern! I like where it is still 3 drawers not the 2 draws floating (I hope this makes sense) I also want to have something that is on top with shelves and closes with a mirror cabinet front. I do not care about a make up vanity. Please help I have spent weeks and cannot get anywhere. We are at a stand still with planning until we decide this part! Below are inspiration photos.

Darn those budgets! :-) Start by prioritizing your wish list, defining what is a must have and what you can live without. That will help the search and help us advise.

If you can live without floating and want something more like the top photo, J & K cabinetry might be an option if they are in your area. they sell only to contractors but the prices are great and the quality is surprisingly nice. their transitional line is much like the top photo. They you can get a cabinet maker to change the front of the cabinet on the counter to a mirrored front or a mirror place could do an inlay on the cabinet.

Two 36" vanities with a central sink and some mix of drawers and cabinet, separated by 24 or 30" of additional drawers, topped with a tower. Pick a finish you like -- apparently driftwood or a weathered gray. There are a zillion options for this; if your "custom" options seem too pricey, see what you can achieve with a decent line of kitchen cabinets, since they're usually designed to fill both roles.

Houseful, I'm overwhelmed! You're so nice to help me with this! What program are you using to generate these, BTW? I talked to my contractor last night and he says that if I put the shower in the front corner (behind the hall door) that I will be able to have a curbless shower. (That area is currently a closet and is a few inches lower than the rest of the bathroom because it doesn't have the big mud bed like the tile bathroom has. ) At first I was loving the first of the two most recent options but then I realized that if someone is standing at the sink closest to the potty it interferes with getting to / using the potty. I am leaning towards having the vanity straight along the left wall, the potty in the back corner on the right, and a big shower behind the door. I liked the size and shape of the 3rd option at the very top, so I tried putting that behind the door and it seems to work nicely. I think it gives me about 3' clearance between the closest point between the vanity and the shower. Is that good? Thanks again for everything! Anita

Sorry I'm so late getting back to you. I think that oddly sized fixtures can be off-putting. Many home buyers are looking for an "ideal" and they can't see past that. If the tub is well made and the bath is located where it's most needed a shorter size tub might not be a problem. If the bath will be used by children then its size is less important, but children grow into teenagers. acm voiced a concern I had about the location of this bath to nearby bedrooms. My mistake in calling it water-resistant drywall. It looks like drywall but it's better referred to as tile backer board. It's most often 1/2 inch thick but I have seen a Hardie brand backer that was only 1/4" thick and came in 3 x 5 ft. sections. HERE is a link to more info on these. There are several types with differing properties. On toilet location, I don't think "obstruction refers to the nearest wall or fixture. I think it refers to something directly in front of the toilet. Looking at your floor plan an angled toilet would not have anything in front of it. There might be room between the toilet and the vanity for a waste basket.

It's right here. Next to the vanity. Twenty four inches wide, approximately. Note. When you stand in a lowly tub shower, which you may be doing? You stand in 20 inches width. Baths are about inches. The contractor "didn't recommend a half wall. WHY? Glass on top of that knee wall gives you all the light from the window within the shower. It doesn't "leak".. Maybe have the brilliant contractor design your bath, as he apparently can not do, : ) You can leave the door and do as suggested above by another poster. Either can work as she posted. But a bath with no linen consideration is one I would try to AVOID. The bath is "adamant" about its INCHES. The inches are the dictators. I can assure you a 42 x 48 shower is very generous in daily use. Having no place for supplies and towels and etc at hand is not fun in a master bath, Which is why you plan first, buy vanities and tile etc..........after. I assume you now have a vanity with two finished sides, and in almost any scenario ......you don't want or need two finished sides.

Shouldn't there be a lighting fixture above the mirrors? The set up looks odd to my eye. Hope it's just the angle of the picture but the sinks are too small and too far apart. You might consider shelving/a cabinet between the mirrors but not above.

You won't find a single vanity that long. Your best bet is to put them together from a semi-custom line (as in go to HD or Lowes and have them price a set of Kraftmaid cabinets).

Your configuration would probably be something like:

36" sink base + 24" drawer base + 36" sink base + 2 wall mounted medicine cabinets

OR

30" sink base + 36" drawer base + 30" sink base + 2 medicine cabinets

What's left of the space can be filled with fillers, 2-3" on either side.

Add a linen closet with storage at one end of the vanity run...hamper space on bottom. That will get you a more ‘normal’ sized vanity
