Wear a hat and it won't seem so intimidating. My first year with Blues was the only year I had terrible divebombers other years they were much more tolerant and just scolded me. We have TRES so Blues divebombing never seems as bad anymore. TRES get really really close when they divebomb and usually if there are other TRES around they join in the bombing mission. It is nuts with the TRES. I say go look but wear a hat and you probably will feel better. They won't hit you cause if they did they could injure themselves. Donna

2 of the babies from our last clutch are still hanging around. They will beg, but I haven't observed the parents feeding them anymore. Interesting thing happened yesterday. There are 4 new eggs which the female is incubating. I observed one of the fledglings enter the box, and he/she never came out! It was late afternoon...quite warm...Was he snuggling with the female? couldnt guess. I will add that during a very cold spell in the winter, every evening 5 bluebirds would arrive and crowd into the house. In the morning, they would fly out, one by one, wake up a little, then fly off. But every evening, they would arrive, one by one, and go back into their "bedroom " together!

My nesting box is mounted on a cedar post 5.5-6 feet off the ground, facing the east. No, we didn't put a baffle on it. I am still so sad about my babies. I could barely function last night, and I feel lost. Those babies and their parents were a large part of my daily enjoyment. I cleaned out the box with a paint scraper, hosed it out, sprayed with a 10% bleach solution and took the door off for a day, to hopefully let it dry out. (We have had too much rain over the past week.) We will get a baffle on the post by the weekend, believe me. Thank you for responding to my plea for help.

Hello, I am so sad. I had a successful bluebird nest of 5 eggs. Attached a sparrow spooker after first egg hatched. Mom hatched all five eggs and babies were 9 days old today. This morning went to straighten Mylar strips on sparrow spooker and box was quiet. Soon discovered one baby blue bird dead inside nest and 4 were missing! No evidence of the four. What happened? Can sparrows kill and then push a 9 day old baby out of nest? I saw sparrows on top of box about 3 hours after I discovered the babies gone and one dead. Please help!
