I have trouble with crows pulling the seedlings out and leaving them lay.

I have had two corn plants in the same pot for 15 years and the past five of those it has bloomed three times. It seems happy. Yet I couldn't leave it alone. I re-potted it thinking I would be brave enough to propagate it. It is about ceiling height (8') and I want to cut them off to start more. I am scared to cut... don't know where to cut and if it doesn't work I have lost a beautiful corn plant. What do I cut it with? It seems rather tough skinned. I also have the problem of the skinny stalk. Mine have a garden stake in pot and are tied to it to get them to stay upright. I need step by step instructions....I have looked on these pages and all I see are 'cut it and stick it water..or cut 4 to 6 inches and but this is not specific enough for me. Any help?

New Iris foliage has been nibbled to ground level. First time for that but it's near deer path on their night travels. I had some Daff foliage eaten as it seems some varieties are susceptible and some aren't. Thought Crocus were safe. Started every other day repellant spraying last week as Tulip foliage is just up and first bit was eaten. Expect that, though. I haven't seen any rabbits out and about here yet but deer never go away and groundhogs "woke up" over 2 weeks ago. I use Shot-Gun Repels All by Bonide. Ingredient list says it's less than ONE TENTH percent "dried blood, whole egg solids and garlic" with the rest of the expensive bottle having to be inert liquid. Can make stronger brew of above commercial mix in blender. If not strained it'll clog your sprayer. Garlic juice and eggs without shells might be better choice to avoid clog. I do have daffodils but they haven't opened yet. My 12yo & I just made up a spray with mushed up garlic, tabasco, oil, soap, water. Then we tied strips of dryer sheets. Sigh. I hope that saves the other stuff. (They even ate the spring growth of liriope. I wouldn't mind if they just ate that. )
