You may find that there are few if any grounds in one of the pods. Try rinsing the pods out in a small amount of water in a bowl or pan then using the water with the grounds on your plants.

I use a table knife. I actually give the grounds and the paper filter to my worm bin..... I then poke additional holes in the bottom of the K-Cup and use it to sprout seeds (like a mini pot). In fact, I am trying to sprout some rose seeds I removed from hips.... hoping that it works. I love the little K-Cups.... great for coffee and just the right size to sprout seeds.

I have tried cutting those before and it was a lot of work with very little coffee grounds inside. An easier way is to visit a local Diner and ask them to save you the large coffee pods which go in their machines. Also, if you have a Starbucks nearby they will save you a whole day's coffee grounds in a trash bag. My local store gave me about eight pounds.

I use the refillable plastic ones and do this all the time. We drink about 4 per day typically. Maybe for a bit it might be worth it to do that? It's really not so much work; way way cheaper not to mention the environmental factor.

once you open them... toss in a container/bucket of water... and collect the days pods... they should rinse out easily that way.. and at the end of the day use that water to water something that could benefit.

There's a brand of coffee pods called San Francisco Bay. They used to sell them at Costco but now I buy them on Amazon. The whole pod is supposed to be biodegradable. Most of the Pod consists of a mesh of some sort. If you did not want to wait for the Pod to decompose, seems like it would be much easier to cut open. I would recommend this brand. They also offer an organic blend. I hate the thought of drinking coffee that's been pushed though that cheap plastic. I wonder what kind of chemicals wind up in the coffee from the plastic, especially with the water being hot.

I haven't found many grounds in the kcups. Most of that is gone when you open them up. My machine punctures the lid to let the water in . I just use a paring knife to make a bigger opening.

We mainly use the refillable kcups. I keep an old coffee can next to the Kuerig. We dump the grounds in there.

In the longer term perhaps your family could be persuaded to make coffee by a far cheaper, more environmentally friendly method, with the spin off that you get more grounds for your garden. Filter or cafetière are easy and they produce no non biodegradable waste for landfill..

Sounds like a lot of work. Drop by Starbucks and score 25-30lbs of grounds at once!

If I weren't the only coffee drinker--two cups each morning-no way would I have a Krueig. AS it is I will not be too disappointed once it breaks. This purchase goes under the "if I had only known" the impact/expense and really the coffee isn't THAT great IMHO. But to your question I too used to use grounds in my gardens...there just are not the grounds and from my attempts at re-usable fill able cartridges sooo not worth the MESS to harvest.

I LOVE my Keueig.... I would NEVER go back to any other kind of coffee maker. I have had a perculator and a a drip.... the problem with those is you can't have a FRESH cup every time you want to drink a cup. I must drink about 10 cups a day.... but not one after the other.... it gets a burnt taste if it sits there..... as for going to starbucks their coffee is over priced.... so I don't buy any coffee there.... theywon't give their grounds to non customers.

A small pour over, french press or Aeropress will give you far superior coffee at a much smaller price, a fresh cup each time and little to no waste.

Absolutely. We have several sizes of cafetière, from two cups (= 1 mug) to twelve. There’s no need to drink coffee that isn't freshly made.

I have a "Cup at a Time" maker from Black and Decker, with long-term filter so all of grounds available immediately - no pods to deal with.

joyful, KCoup also has a gold filter that you can fill it with your own grounds and reuse it... but I find I just like the ease of the actual kcups... and I don't really mind taking the grounds out... yes it is time consuming, but I find it relaxing.
