Update on my Mom & Uncle
Comments (22)She has had 2 stints put in her heart and both legs and this time they did the one in her liver and it has made a huge difference. She is at home now and still has normal blood pressure. They gave her a prescription for half the strenght she was taking in case it goes back up but so far so good. She is sore but in good spirits. I will be making plans to go down there when the weather warms up and we can go to some flea markets and book stores. She likes to read. My uncle is still being weaned off the ventilator but is stable and getting a little better. That is a big relief to my Mom since he is too far away from her to go see in her condition. Thanks for all the well wishes. I am glad everything is working out so I don't have to stress so much....See MoreUpdate on My Mom
Comments (5)Sounds like good news on all fronts with your parents ! I hope that your brother gets stable quickly and can get back home soon. Taking care of your parents is a lot of emotional and physical work. But it is worth it. I had full care of my 92 yr old Dad in their home for 6 months and then Momma came and lived with us for 3 years. Her health had been neglected while Daddy was in need. We then discovered that she had lymphoma when she came to live in our home. Take care of yourself and I hope that you can all spell each other and stay strong. c...See MoreUpdate on my mom
Comments (22)Thank you, everyone, for all the kind thoughts, prayer and support and emails. I am sorry for not getting back sooner. It has been a long week, but my mom is settling down just a little bit but so very unhappy to be where she is. As it stands now, she will be going into assisted living right here in my town. It didn't take long for my sister and I to realize that it would not be wise to try and take her to my sisters home. Like jannie's DH, my mom doesn't think there is anything wrong enough to warrant medication, etc. Yesterday they tweaked her anxiety meds just a little bit. This could explain why she was a little better today. I think she only cussed a half dozen times and wished the place would burn down only once or twice. I have to smile just a little bit because there is a smidgen of humor to her behavior. I'm hoping the weekend will go as smoothly as today did because at the moment she believes she is going home next week. The staff tried to talk with her about going into assisted living but she wouldn't hear about it. Next week, making the move to AL is going to be the worst for her, I think. The AL administrator asked that we not visit for 5 to 7 days. That is going to be hard on all of us and I'm not sure that's the right thing to do. How do we know what kind of care my mother will get? Yes, this is in my town and I do know people that have been in there but we have no firsthand experiences. In the long run, I just hope that she will find some kind of joy in life again and maybe even make some friends in there....See MoreUpdate on My Mom
Comments (21)They definitely won't give her ice chips Cynic, in case one goes down the wrong way and gets stuck in her lung. Then it's back to square one. OJ, I've never posted her name, but what the heck..... Gotta tell you this story about my ex-hubs. He had a sense of humour as well. At the time, my cat of 14 yrs died. Mom wanted to give us something in memory of her. She was going to give us money to plant a tree, but we didn't have room for another one. I didn't think I'd get another cat, after losing Peanut, but it was lonely without one. We saw one in the paper, and mom gave us the $50 for it, if we liked him. One the way home, with the cat and his belongings, we didn't like his name, and wanted to re-name him. DH said "Let's call him after your Mom." I said You want to call the cat NORMA??!. He said.....Noooo, Biddy; after "The Old Biddy." LOLOL Mom thought that was hilarious, and Biddy was Biddy till he died this year....See Moreyeonassky
