Curtains for an oddly recessed living room window. (& what length?)

Please help! I need ideas for my front window in my living room. The window is 54" L and 116" wide. (with only 2 3/4" between the frame and side wall. The measurement from the floor to the top of the window trim is 82". I have 8 ft ceilings.

My dilemma is what size curtains to purchase. and where to hang the rod. I have read many articles that suggest hanging the rod 4 - 8 inches above the frame to help lengthen the window. I have 13" between the top of the window frame and my ceiling. Seems that 84" would make the window look really short. And there is not enough room for a 96" curtain.

As far as color, I was thinking either white linen curtains or maybe a light chambray linen with white sheers hung behind using a double rod. I would like to hang them using curtain rings, so I can easily slide them open and closed. (The walls are Revere Pewter, but the pic came out dark b/c of the light coming in through the window)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
