Anyone here doing concrete counter tops?
Comments (35)A good friend of ours has done many concrete countertops and they look amazing. We seriously considered it for our remodel. The staining/etching is what turned us off. To be perfectly frank I'm a slob in the kitchen. A countertop that would be damaged by red wine or lemon left on it overnight is just not feasible. Instead we went with soapstone. If it can hold up to legions of teenage chemistry students I feel it can hold up to me. :D If you do decide to go with concrete have you seen the books by Fu-Tung Cheng? They're excellent. Soapstone can be a lot more affordable as a DIY project. The quarry we bought from has DIY kits for about $25/sq ft or you could make it even cheaper by using tiles. Soapstone seams incredibly well....See MoreAnyone have a counter top material backsplash then subway on top?
Comments (12)It may be that the person installing the counters is worried about a good tight fit against all the walls where counters will run. If your walls are not flat and straight, the installers can cover a pretty good sized gap with that thick strip of countertop material laid a few inches up the wall ( the older style installations). But with good modern templating, you should expect a good fit even if your walls are a little bit off, then the tile can come right down to the counter and still meet with a small caulk joint at the change of plane. Perhaps you can ask them if they're worried about uneven walls, or you can take a yardstick to them yourself to see how they look. If it were my kitchen I'd certainly want the newer style installation....See MoreHas anyone used Eco by Cosentino (white diamond) counter tops?
Comments (3)I have Eco Riverbed for my peninsula. It's mostly used for dining and I have seating on both sides, but it is used several times a day. I've had it for over a year and the only problem was that one of the glass pieces chipped out. This happened soon after it was installed. It's very small - about a 1/8 inch circular shape. It's shallow, but I can feel it when I run my hard over it. I'm careful to never set anything hot directly on it because I've heard it can crack. I never set anything hot on my perimeter counters, either. They are Silestone, also made by Cosentino. I brought home the White Diamond sample, too. It's very pretty!...See MoreAnyone have Silestone Royal Reef or Desert Silver quartz counter tops?
Comments (22)This is the only post I could find regarding Royal Reef Quartz. Do you think Royal Reef would go nicely with white cabinets (black hardware) and white subway tile. Our island is a color called Hale Navy. We have Maple light colored flooring. Most of our accents (stools, pendants) are a matte black and stainless. I’m worried the Royal will look too beige. The woman helping us with the quartz said the RR wouldn’t look beige that it would take on the color of the navy and white. I’m not convinced .... any advice? BTW your kitchen is beautiful! Thank you...See Morejewelisfabulous
