Advice about gritty mix

Hi. I recently created a succulent tower with gritty mix (Repti-bark, napa flor dri, chicken grit). I took a bunch of my succulents that were potted in Miracle Grow cactus soil and put them into gritty mix inside of graduated cement bowls. My succulents were doing ok in the miracle grow, but I had all the ingredients for the gritty mix, so I figured give it a try. I bring my succulents outdoors in the summer and then inside under grow lights in the winter.

Was it a good idea to change over to this new soil? Or should I have left them in their miracle grow? One issue that I often face is meal worms or aphids while they are indoors during the winter months. I think they often infest my plants due to the moisture from the miracle grow soil. Do you think that's the case?

Just concerned that I shouldn't have changed the soil, even though I know gritty mix is healthier for the plants overall. I don't doubt it, just a little worried.

Thanks for listening!
