No need to be concerned about water damage to a bathroom door if your bathroom is properly ventilated. Before staining the veneer, apply an even coat of sanding sealer (Zinsser) to seal the veneer and prevent blotching and uneven finish. Stain the veneer using a soft cloth soaked with stain. Rub on a generous amount of stain as if waxing a car in a circular motion. That will work the stain into the veneer grain. Immediately finish the application using same cloth in the direction of the grain. Let it set to your desired depth of color, but no more than 15 minutes. Remove the residue with a clean soft cloth. Change cloth, and wipe down until finish is even. Let dry 8 hours before poly.

Thanks for all the feedback. Currently there is a fur down there that comes down about 24" from the 10' ceiling, and is 12" deep. I think I'll leave it like that because with the 9" deep tower, and the crown that will come up and out a little bit from the top of the tower, the 12" fur down will just be a couple of inches deeper than the tower. So it will be similar to the first picture and the third picture.

Not really a trend as they've been around a while, but how do glass showers hold up after 5 years, 10 years? Water and soap stains?
