i can or could agree with you on some of the list, if you don't take care of your plants, i do have gold flame honeysuckle. i have it on an arch. every fall i clip it back to about 6" or so, and in the spring it comes right back up and just as beautiful as ever!! when we first bought our house, it had over a foot of dead vines under the live ones, i had to cut all that back, it was a real pain in the butt!!! now it looks great though, also on that arch is my orange trumpet vine for the hummers. and that one is very thick!! but it also has to be cut back. if you don't do this it all just dies for the next years growth anyhow. so i don't know why people wouldn't want to cut it back?? and severely!!! and the honeysuckle smells awesome!!! :') ~Medo

What's blooming? Same as everybody else! Along with: bright yellowy-orange Geum 'Mango lassi', next to some Salvia nemorosa 'Caradonna' all budded up in dark purple and some red heuchera yaku rhodies with their lovely bright pink buds fading to white -- next to Antennaria something or other with funny white flower spikes, in combo with the same Salvia, and near a Weigela 'Wine and Roses' (or was it 'Midnight Wine'?) just starting, And that same dark Weigela looks great with the bright gold of spirea 'Gold Flame' budded and ready to go, and peonies in full, big bud, just about to open (when is the next heavy rain? My usually open just before it starts and then flop heavily) Phlox subulata (light blue in great mounds, bright pink just starting) under some blooming blueberries allium 'Purple Sensation' (is this the one with the foliage that will look dreadful very soon?) that looks a bit funny by itself Vaseyi azaleas (started 4/28) are just finishing up, as is Fothergilla major (maybe Mt Airy). I love them together, along with a Halesia 'UConn Wedding Bells' against a hemlock (covered with adelgid) hedge. I just put in a very orange azalea (Gibralter?) under a red Japanese maple, near ego's Lady in Red Hydrangea and some red astilbes, complementing the new growth on some 'Mountain Fire' (?) Pieris. I love orange and red! I also just put in some rhodie calendulaceum in my woody area (along with 3 nyssa and a bareroot shagbark hickory which is finally showing signs of life!) What else is going on? My rainbarrels (long, long saga) are finally in, stable and full of water. My new asparagus beds are looking very healthy. Strawberries are blooming like crazy and I need to rig up bird netting over them. Any thots on how? The kids' dahlias just went in the ground yesterday. I am still moving my 5 cubic yards of loam, but I am finally reaching the end -- and about to order 3-4 cubic yards of combined bark mulch and compost.... I think that's it for now! Dee, great photo! I'm exhausted. Not as exhausted as poor George, probably, but I was in the garden all weekend and every night this week after work. We finally have the front beds pretty well planted and mulched (just a few things left to be moved when I have more time). There is a still a pile of mulch in the driveway waiting to be spread out back and lots of weeds to be tackled back there. I also remembered to sow my cosmo, foxglove and cerinthe seeds. The great development for me this week was that my son has taken an interest in the yard. He has always hated the time I spend in the garden (not that he wants my attention when I'm in the house, lol). This year I bought him a reel lawn mower, which he seems to love, and an electric weedwhacker, which he loves more. Tonight he helped me by loading the wheelbarrow and delivering the mulch, and was actually asking about some of the plants and voicing his preferences (so far, alliums are a big hit, mainly because not much else is flowering). Dirty fingernails here as well - - and telltale dirt on my heels when I get in to work in the morning!
