I'm not seeing that you really have enough of a comfortable clearance to the house to have an open fire pit there unless it is very, very small. The sky is the limit as far as furniture, and it depends on your style and what you use the area to do. If you want more backyard entertainment, you could always put up game nets or even do an above-ground plunge pool so that the porch is no longer the focus of the area.

It looks like you have no landscaping currently. No foundation or perimeter planting. No trees for shade. No shrubs for privacy. You just need to create a landscape plan and then implement it. Start with a base plan ... where the existing features (house,patio, fence, etc.) are drawn out, to scale. Create beds ... draw the line that separates the landscape planting areas from the lawn. Pick plants to go in the beds. Once you get started, especially with the base plan, it would be a lot easier to help you.

one easy way to spruce up that concrete pad would be to lay a wood or stone paver pattern ontop of a pedestal system. We use Buzon USA East, they provide the pavers and pedestals as an option. Here is a recent stone installation:

For the landscaping, i would create a plant bed maybe 2-3 ft wide. and plant flowers in a way that you have continuous blooms from may thru end of summer :)
