Help me decide between two fridges!

Okay, so Subzero and Thermador are just out of the budget. We’re debating against the following:

Frigidaire Twin Column set : full freezer, full fridge

Two bottom freezer Fisher and Paykel units installed side by side using their joiner kit

Prices are almost identical. Widths are nearly the same. Frigidaire set is 5 inches taller. We’d buy the 5 year warranty for either. Electrolux Twins are out of the question right now bc they are on backorder until Sept.

I was not happy with my F&P bottom freezer. The SS was of poor quality, little dings would just appear (no kids no pets). Made lots of electronic noise. Hinges failed, door would not stay open. Was very attractive and nicely spartan inside. Last time I buy for looks.

That’s super disappointing. How long ago did you purchase? Were they good about fixing the hinge and door issues? It seems that every fridge or freezer I look at has abysmal reviews mixed in. Maybe just the nature of the appliance?

Personally, I care more about efficiency, performance, and gentleness than cycle time, and I'm sure many other people agree with me on that. My front loader takes 45 minutes for a normal soiled cotton load. That's about 1.5 Speed Queen TL loads, not 2. Heavily soiled loads take longer, but they would take longer than 30 in the SQ as well (including soak time) if you want it to do as well as an FL. >No error codes, balancing to spin,mould, or washer clean cycles My FL doesn't give me error codes, grow mold, or make me run clean cycles either. It does balance before spinning, which adds a little bit of time to the cycle, but I'm more than willing to wait those few minutes so that I can wash with 15 gallons of water instead of 50 and get all the other benefits of an FL. >Bendix came out with the first fully automatic washer in the late 30s. A fl washer at that. The USA has always had front loaders,nothing new. We invented them. Why this over hyped craze within the last 20 years or so for shiny plastic planned obsolescence? I don't know what your point is here, but it seems you're trying to say modern FL's are "shiny plastic planned obsolescence". Speed Queen makes an excellent front loader. You wouldn't call that "shiny plastic planned obsolescence" would you?

Could I trouble those of you with these lovely Revitalize pulls for pictures from a little further back, in context with surrounding cabinets? One of my issues is sizing; most of my drawers are 30 - 36" wide so I have to consider paying up for long ones or putting pairs on each drawer. I was sure I wanted Candler but the linked picture of them installed, and the feel in my hand, has caused me to re-evaluate. They seem "thick" looking, and when I used them at the model they were also less comfortable than Revitalize. When I opened drawers with Revitalize, my hand naturally fell so that my thumb was on the angled part - do you use them that way IRL? Here is a link that might be useful: not a fan of this look!

My concern is aisle widths. The width between the island and the right hand side is 3'1" (37"). If this doesn't take into account counter you will be down to perhaps 34" aisle width when subtracting potential counter overhang from both sides. I'm assuming you have kids given the homework room and I can envision (may not happen - you know your routines better than me that's for sure) a traffic spot that may require traffic lights and that is the area that comes out of the homework room (and whatever other rooms are down the hall) and into the kitchen or through to the dining room, coming down the stairs and into the kitchen and also standing at the beverage center. The other area of concern is the seating at the top of the table. The aisle width is 4'5" but if someone is trying to sit down and then sitting down they need about 2-3' to do that. It will be tough to walk behind them and you won't beable to open the DW. There's just no breathing room or air in this space. The room can't take a deep breath. But not my space.

I didn't see this thread until now but I don't know if it would have changed my mind or not. I am in the midst of a high end kitchen renovation and was agonizing about this decision for a while; I did decide on the counter depth Bosch as it is 1/4 of the price of the SZ. It DOES have 2 compressors which was a selling point for me (vs the SZ which has the 2 compressors). I like that Bosch has the split shelves, the door shelves that accomodate gallon containers, the programable produce drawers, the larger freezer, and the French doors vs the single door in the SZ. I got rid of my 25 year old SZ that hasn't been in good shape for over 5 years (with produce spoiling quickly, etc). Ironically my extra 25 year old Kitchen Aid fridge that I keep in the garage still operates well and better than the 25 year old SZ did, but you can't get Kitchen Aids like that any more. Additionally, all the contractors do not think highly of SZ at this point. I don't have my Bosch long enough to comment about the alarm or reliability at this point.

My F&P was purchased about 7 years ago from Lowes. Due to short lived appliance experience, I bought the extended warranty. Lowes contracts with locals. They sent someone out. No parts could be acquired for the hinges. It was plastic stuff, sort of boomerang shaped that was above or below the the actual hinges - I think functioning somewhat like a washer. Found pieces on the floor. Lowes refunded me the price of the fridge on a gift card - crazy. Of course I kept the fridge and hated it less due to my refund.

I haven't been a fan of any appliance except for my Bosch dishwasher. Three bad, not cheap, wall ovens, short lived Whirlpool dishwasher. It's just crazy that they are engineered so poorly and that a brand can't rise above so that others will strive to be better to be competitive. Planned obsolescence, and no real consumer protection for this junk in the US i.e. warranty. They can all stink and we buy them because there aren't any that are great, even much of the high end stuff has problems.

I'm between homes and have been considering the Frigidaire all fridge and freezer for the next place. (Miele wall oven, Bluestar rangetop, Bosch dishwasher)
