Is this Brushed Nickel or Satin Nickel?
Comments (5)It isn't 'Nickel' at all. It is 'Stainless Steel'. I know b/c I was trying to figure out finishes too for the faucet, soap dispenser and cabinet hardware and found out Kohler is one of the only companies that makes a 'Stainless Steel' kitchen faucet b/c people with stainless steel sinks complained that the nickel looked too yellow in comparison to the sink. That being said, yes, stainless is a little more blue and perhaps colder than nickel, but hardly anyone can see the difference when comparing small items like a faucet, soap dispenser or hardware. As far as the soap dispenser, what you are comparing is the finish of either 'satin' or 'brushed' in the nickel material. It is a personal preference - I like brushed and think satin looks like a cheap spray-on finish but I know people who don't like the brushed finish and prefer satin. The satin might be closer to the faucet photo you linked to but I think either would be fine. HTH....See MoreSatin nickel faucet with polished nickel hardware?
Comments (4)bumping this up. Anyone out there who's actually done what I'm proposing? My California migrated lighting designer-who's helped me immensely on many kitchen design issues, is a bit more of a purist on finishes. My notes of our early discussion show he suggested hardware in satin or stainless steel for their sheen but not brushed nickel which is more matte. Antique nickel, brass, antique (aged) bronze etc was also high, polished nickel not so much. Also, I recently saw a "what's new in 2013 kitchens" and it said popular hardware are satin, orb, some brass, but not seeing as much polished. If you know of a "bright" satin cabinet hardware maker, please do share. A lot might depend on the base metal in the collection. :/ Thanks again....See MoreHelp! Comments (7)Yes, I think you can mix it. I don't think you would have any problem at all doing that. ....silver is silver. ... is silver. I have a brushed satin double sink, and a shiny Delta faucet....never thought twice about it... It's silver. It works. It's paid for. LOL And your lights are not near your kitchen faucet. I have a ceiling recessed light above my kitchen sink(recessed into over head cabinets that hang down 30 inches from my ceiling)...it only came with a white square frame at the time... I have cut glass ceiling 'salad bowl' style kitchen fixtures, with shiny brass edge and middle mount to match my other ceiling fixtures in my open den. It all works to make light for my family. Shiny, Brushed, Silver, Gold, Crystal, Glass, it all makes a house. And the tax man thinks it's a castle! LOL...See MoreBrushed nickel vs Satin Nickel
Comments (3)Personally, I prefer fixtures & hardware be in the same color "family". For example, brushed/sating nickel (very little, if any, difference) in the "silver" family -- pewter, iron, etc. Brass with "yellows". I have both brushed & satin nickel fixtures and door hardware in my kitchen (along with antique iron cabinet hardware) and you cannot tell the difference b/w the brushed and satin. In some cases, I think it's just the name a particular manufacturer uses. There is no yellow in any of my nickel hardware or fixtures....See MoreRelated Professionals
