Cabinets with glass insert doors are generally the same finish inside and out, as yours currently are. In fact, you, or whoever chose those cabinets, paid extra to have the inside finish match the outside finish.

You could have the inside of the cabinet painted white, and then replace your wood shelves with glass shelves. That way the wear on the finish will be minimal.

Paint the inside to match. You can get sturdy, clear plastic shelf liner from IKEA or Container Store if you are concerned with wear and tear.

If you’re worried about wear, then you’re not using an actual cabinet coating that would pass KCMA testing. House paint won’t hold up, for sure.

I’m having them professionally painted. I was just thinking of the constant use of putting glasses/coffee mugs away would wear the finish. Sounds like it won’t. I was also thinking the wood may add some warmth to the kitchen. But I’ll have him paint. He was probably planning it anyway.. I was just cleaning up ( starting tomorrow) and got to thinking about those glass doors.

We finish the interior of glass door cabinets the same as the exterior.

What specific brand of coating is he using? What is the process! Cabinet painting isn’t trim painting!

I actually love the wood showing. But those doors are simpler. Mine have the outside wood detail so I’m thinking all white will probably look better.

His process is a chemical cleaner, sanding, priming and painting. It’s gonna take a few days. I feel good about the painter. Been in business for 30 years. The wear question was simply because I know that no matter how good the process is.. nothing’s probably as good as factory finish and the wood stain is more forgiving. Mine are almost 20 years old and desperately need a facelift. Lots of wear!

I really like the contrast of a wood interior with white exterior. I did it in my kitchen this time. We had white interiors the last time and it was just sort of blah. I'd especially do it on your bar area to separate it from the rest of the kitchen. I think it is a richer look.

That’s beautiful! I’m going for it.. I can always circle back and paint if I don’t like it. I’m also tempted to replace the shelf’s with glass.. I just had a maple butcher block installed on the island so I like the idea of the wood showing. Adds warmth.

The painter suggested painting only the front edge of the shelves white.. too eliminate some of the lines since I have wood detailing on the doors..

Great idea. You can always paint it. I'd go with glass shelves and add puck lighting if you don't already have it.
