I think the addition of the stripe might not be approved by DS. I think it might take it that one step beyond looking pulled together and looking "decorated". But I will let him choose when he returns next week. He hasn't seen the room finished. Even though he chose the individual elements and has seen the room painted, he hasn't seen everything in the room. I offered photos but he wants to be surprised. That's why I haven't ironed the duvet yet, just in case he hates it in person. I went to the fabric store today to pick up some options. I found a gray linen that is very close to the background color of the drapes and would work the best if I added stripes. I also picked up a heavy matelasse type of fabric per a couple suggestions above. This one is the wall color and has a little circle theme. Yeah I know....i'm supposed to be moving away from that but I think it could be a contender as it's rather subtle. I picked up one other that I'm not sure how to explain but I don't really like. I also purchased a 1/2 yard of charcoal silk to use to make cording for the pillows and decided to see how that would work so I'm attaching photos for your thoughts. charcoal silk...I like the contrast with everything else and since I am using it to edge the throw pillows made out of the circle fabric, it would tie in. Unfortunately, they are rather stingy with their samples and have a minimum 1/2 yard purchase requirement... I couldn't find anything heavy except the circle fabric. The linen is rather "stiff" though and would hold a box pleat really well.

I think the biggest thing you are fighting is the dark floor. You have over come this in the dinning area with large white area rugs. I don't know how practical it is to do the same in the kitchen. I love the look of long kitchen runners, but would hate to clean them. I think the most important thing to ask is budget. If you have the budget for painting all of the cabinets, I'd go for it. Lastly, I am swooning over your copper pot collection. Gorgeous. Do you use them on a daily basis? I think it is a tragedy the way they are hung. There is not enough room to see them all jammed together and in front of the window. My brother is a chef and has phenomenal French copper pots. He keeps them hanging in his dining room and they look great. He doesn't use them often. I would also get white stool that match the dining room chairs. It will tie the spaces together and add more bright color to the kitchen area. I'd paint the back door the same color as the wall too, including the frame.

Are the dining table/chairs in view of the sofa area? I think that your stark white dining table is too much of a contrast with everything else. I would opt for a darker table and maybe a darker chandelier, too. Does your table have to be angled? I think that your living room rug works well with your sofa/chair, etc. I have never been a fan of cornices so I would remove them. I would prefer simple drapery panels instead. Is the " bar" used for a quick bowl of cereal or is it a booze bar? If it is used for drinking I would remove it completely. Again, it is something that I do not prefer.
