Mini Makeover (Pics included)..... Help Please :-)
Comments (9)I would leave the beams and the mantel in the family room the color they are now. I would paint the bookcase a warm creamy color that compliments the stone, not what appears to be the harsh white of the trim in the room, but I would paint the backs of the bookcases in the wall color. I hate the shingles, but if they are not up for removing them, then I would paint them the same color of the bookcase. I would really rather see them remove the shingles and just put on a solid trim board there and then paint it - I think it would make such a difference, and would still be a relatively simple fix. Refocus the spots on the mantel, not on the shingles and upper part of the stone where there is nothing to spotlight. Find a fireplace screen that fits the opening. I assume the other opening is for wood storage? I would paint the inside of that the cream color of the bookcases to take away the look of two black holes there. Leave the spindles alone on the stairs. I think they look fine. I would remove those huge panels from the walls completely. They add nothing, and the weird angles look odd. Can't tell from the pix, but I think she needs a much larger chandy in that stairwell, hung higher, rather than the little mini pendant hanging over the chair....See MoreMini home makeover - coming soon!
Comments (6)Lucky postum to have such good friends! Looking forward to hearing the "postmortem" ;-) of the project. What would I do if I could make over my house? 1) rearrange the walls upstairs to get rid of the "bowling alley" bedroom - one bedroom has 2) remove the bay window from the living room and replace it with a pair of plain windows like on the other side of (yes, I know we are in dire need of landscaping, it's on the list, along with a new front door, lighting and tearing off that listing side deck), put board and batten shutters on both sets of windows 3) upstairs bath from to ; this would technically be the children's bath (if the house were used by a larger family) so a partial wet room concept makes a lot of sense. Linen closet in hallway. 4) kitchen goes from to . 5) complete rearrangement of utility/laundry/powder room off kitchen, from to . 6) Remove ALL interior trim and replace with oak like in MBR. 7) Pipe dream: reside house in gray shingles with charcoal and white trim and purple accents...See MoreUpdate on the Mini-Makeover
Comments (0)We picked up the Metal Ocean counters that we ordered last Friday. They look better than I hoped. No matter how big the samples are, they never do the counter justice. You really notice the golden color, which will compliment the cabinets. By the way, I do have lots of Formica and Wilsonart samples if anyone needs. As you may know already, my tile is in and I am very happy. I will go 5 inches with the 1 inch tile, but 3 inches up I am inserting a row of the 5/8 inch tile to make it more interesting. Plus, I couldn't send it back. We just spoke with our contractor and we are tentatively set to start work on the kitchen 8/30. We will be picking up our counters today and trying to find room for them to store. I had a friend come over yesterday and she thinks that the color we used was Calypso Breeze. She even remembers me saying something about Calypso Breeze back six years ago. Since we cannot agree on a green and the off-whites/yellows are too creamy for stainless steel, we are going with the blue Calypso Breeze. It goes with the cabinets and the tile, since anything I picked had to go with the blue since the kitchen borders with the dining and living room space. Speaking of stainless steel, I was hoping someone could give us advice on the shelving whether we should go with 16 gauge or 18 gauge stainless steel shelves. Currently we are looking for two 84" inch stainless steel shelves. I imagine we will be putting our bowls, colanders, electrical gadgets, steamers, and recipe books. We are getting rid of the soffits and updating the light fixtures. This month better roll by quickly. Deni...See MoreExtreme budget mini makeover ideas !
Comments (20)Thank you Aktillery! I have heard of Barker but forgot, thanks for the reminder. This could be good. Now that I have decided on a partial overlay I'm sort of excited about a cute two tone kitchen for son with better function. Imagine having wall cabinets deeper than 10 3/4" so you could easily get a plate in there. Or, adjustable shelves that you could put cereal boxes or coffee supplies and even a container of cooking oil. And, a corner cabinet that would actually fit med sized serving bowls...oh the luxury! The other change will be putting a microwave over the range to free up counter space. That area above will require a smaller custom size cabinet, maybe, need to re-measure. Down the road after son pays for a new flat roof over patio and a few other expenses he can do the bottom half, or, not. This townhouse is in more of a "starter" community. It's nice but there is a limit to how much to spend on remodels. He did the important stuff like new a/c , water heater and updated baths/plumbing and more. So, need to re-measure and perhaps also get a quote from Conestoga's lower line as well. So many cute kitchens in two tone....See Morejck910
