Arcy, evidence of meditation dates back to at least 5,000 BC in India. While it's not clear how or what was being practiced back then, the oral and written history of it going back to 1,500 BC is quite consistent with the much older artifacts that have been found. So rather than stating it's been bastardized because what others practice differs from yours, or professing how meditation should be -- which comes across as being self-righteous and judgmental, the antithesis of meditative practice -- perhaps just accept that it is widely practiced by people of many different religious and nonreligious traditions in ways that are meaningful to them. Maybe, instead, just be glad that others have found what works for them and glad that you have found what works for you as it's a practice that benefits everyone.

yeonassky, I did not know you lived in Nova Scotia. My father was born there. I've only visited once when I was a child, but Nova Scotia has a special place in my heart. I'm sorry for what happened there recently.

When I was taking my MBSR class, we were taught that telling someone what they should do was very off putting, likely to cause the other person to tune out, take offense, harden their position, defend themselves and could engender bad feelings. Instead we were taught to talk about what we've experienced and what works for us as a way to suggest something that the other person might consider and find helpful. It's a way of putting our thoughts out there that respects the other person as they are, without judgment, and gives them space to think about and interpret those thoughts, receiving them in a way that may be meaningful to them.

Thank you for correcting me, I missed it between the images. Looking at it again is a reminder of how outrageous it is.

dee can, the style labyrinth I chose is the easiest to replicate....set a few crosses in the beginning and then the loops around just go from there.

It was a very interesting thing to build and to walk. I've debated about doing something more permanent as we have the space, but it would need to be something easy to maintain, and I've just never decided on anything. Rather it was an impermanent thing, like a mandala, like life. I did get interested in them though and found there are many public and private ones, some open to the public.

I'm sorry for the confusion. I don't live in Nova Scotia. This commemoration is at a beach in Vancouver.

Despite COVID people here are still talking and remembering about what happened in Nova Scotia. It was like a giant shock wave that went through Canada at the senseless loss of lives in Nova Scotia.

I'll feel the pain for a long time but it can't be anywhere near what the people there feel.
