HELP!! I Need Gel Stain Advice for Dining Room Table & Chairs
Comments (14)Thanks for all your advice. I'm so glad that I didn't just rush in and start this. From the sounds of it, I WOULD HAVE ruined them . . . :^0 . . . OMGosh! I need to run all this by DH. He's been encouraging me to call up and order a set I like that I saw in Phoenix Home & Garden magazine spread. I can't imagine ordering anything that big and expensive sight unseen, though. Hmmmmmm, there may be a weekend trip to Scottsdale in the offing ;^) In the mean time, I need to decide whether I want to paint the set a brown first and them give the Gel Stain a go or just leave it as is until I get a new set. BTW, I haven't looked into having it professionally stripped and redone. I probably should. I can't imagine a red or blue table in our dining room, though. I'll have to think about that one....See MoreStaining a table.....
Comments (1)I would put on a stripper of some sort (depending on what finish is on it now) maybe a varnish remover or something similiar, that will remove the fishish on it now. I think if you dont remove this surface and only sand, you will most likely not get it all off and your stain might not go on evenly, after that then lightly sand, apply your stain and finish off with poly....See MoreDining room table - advice on material/finish
Comments (7)I think a darker is sounding good. Maybe fairly clean lines but with a little bit of detail on the legs - I don't know the name for it, but instead of just being straight they bend outwards a little bit? Maybe something like this leg, just to take an example from a quick search: http://www.diningtables.com/dining-tables/formal-dining-tables/jessicamcclintockrectanglelegtable.cfm Price range, we are pretty open. The ones I've seen online as I've browsed seem to run $2-$3000 for the table. Less would be fine :-) but I'm okay with paying that for something that's good quality that we can keep for a long time (unlike what we had before)....See MoreDining Room Table Selection Advice
Comments (5)Does it give a 'color' of the stain? I don't think it will clash, but I think you can find something better! I don't know what your budget is, but if it's tight, check Craigslist. You can find some really nice solid wood tables for a song. People are always selling chairs as well. If you have any DIY skills, you can paint or recover the seats. You could find a solid oak table on CL for 1/4 of the price of that table. here is a similar one w/a lighter top so you can see what it looks likeand yours...See Morebtydrvn
