Help arranging 2-story living room with grand piano
Comments (7)Ideally angling the grand piano would be the way to go. I still think centering it in front of the FP will not read well...............I figured it was too tight to pull it off center and on an angle. I would float the piano - do not put it next to a wall. Think of it this way: your grand piano will be the focal point of the room for all intents and purposes. Not a TV nor a fireplace. When you float it, anchor it on a large area rug. Then arrange the seating to focus on the focal point you have created. I envision the grand on an angle where the sofa is in your diagram. Then you could have a rather large semicircular sofa facing it (seating for 8-10). Create a separate seating area around the FP - two swivel bucket seats perhaps with a low coffee table in front of the FP....See More2 story living room wall, decorate or leave blank?

Comments (8)The ceiling to floor is certainly dramatic. They are probably quite expensive so I would 100% go with Mark's logic. I had a 2 story area like this when I was younger, and I left it bare. It was North facing with lots of trees. Never once did I need to block sun or get privacy - in fact there was nothing on the lower windows. But the 3 other directions would have a much greater likelihood of needing window treatments. You would definitely want 120V up there. Can't imagine changing batteries - if they could even handle those long/heavy curtains....See MoreReturn Air Duct placement 2 story great room DESIGN DILEMMA!
Comments (22)Iowa, you must have a basement and returns could be "easier" to relocate. Hopefully, those are just returning the CFM required for that room and not the entire house. Be aware that with 18' walls there will be blocking somewhere above those vents or something framing in from whatever's on the other side of that wall which might prevent you from raising the vents up higher (at least easily). A well-advised HVAC designer (not equipment tech) can review the size of both stud space openings through the floor for each vent and possibly find another location/combine a couple if you can meet the CFM flow. The location to the left of FP is too close to the floor register IMO anyway....See MoreRadmila Cucuz
