Has anyone used IKEA Karlby model countertops? What's your experience?
Comments (12)Great feedback, thank you. shaggydogs- I'm not sure about that 1.5" thick issue. I know they released their new "SEKTION" kitchen line and that's what I ordered. I noticed during my online building process that the sink base cabinets are now different compared to the old AKURUM models. Maybe they have some adjustments built into the new base cabinets for this difference? I'll place a call to IKEA and find out. milworkman - As for the particle board issue, most laminates are bonded to particle board and when treated well they survive quite awhile. My grandmother has a laminate countertop that's 20 years old and still going strong. But, you're right about the 45 cuts, it's pretty much impossible to do that and keep it sealed. I could just join them together without 45's, but they have beveled edges and I've never been a fan of joining two perpendicular bevels together like that. It just collects debris and bacteria as well as looking "half assed" in terms of build quality in my opinion. So, it seems I may have to give in and return these tops when some solid oak slabs become available ( available stock on these tops in Ottawa Ontario is rarer than a unicorn some years!)....See MorePictures of Flooret Modin Arbor floors
Comments (40)@DK F we love the flooring, we have the color Arbor and feel it is pretty uniform in color. There isn’t too much color variation. I also really like the wire brush effect on Arbor because it hides dirt and scratches. we have had some scratches already. We noticed it doesn’t like hard plastic being moved across it. So if you have any furniture pieces with hard plastic bottom put felt pads on. Our cats have also scratchd the floor in a couple spots chasing and turning corners fast with their claws but it’s not even noticeable. The pattern is tricky, it isn’t the same location in every board but in some boxes we did get a lot of the similar pattern so we had to take all the planks and label them (1, 2, 3, 4) with painters tape and that helped when we installed to keep it mixed. no issues with the bevels or separating. We have it through our entire 1400 sq for home without any transitions for a year now. one thing we did have an issue with is when we first installed for the first couple months it made a crackling sound when you walked on it in places. That has since gone away, we aren’t sure why. I think just settling? Other people on here have had this issue too, and not just with Flooret with other brands of rigid core LVP. Also make sure your subfloor is very flat. We have a couple spots where it wasn’t so flat and you can tell when you step on those spots as it feels a little bouncy. This is typical of any floating floor though....See MoreFlooret Modin Reviews?
Comments (1)We are installing Arbor and so far have done the hall, family room and kitchen. Although the Arbor is not “super” dark, I sort of wish for practical purposes (dust) I would have chose a lighter color. The color is beautiful though! I love how the floor feels to walk on, it cleans very easily. Now, it DOES scuff (husband did it when he moved the dishwasher back in and I’m fairly certain the scuff will come out). Good luck with your search....See MoreFlooret Modin LVP in Sutton - Pictures Wanted
Comments (38)@parehm, We have Flooret Modin in Arbor in our entire house (actually just laying our living room and kitchen planks today!). We did extensive research and got samples of the Flooret, Provenza, Coretec Plus, Mannington Adura Max and Kardean. We chose the Flooret because it felt and looked the best, and we especially liked the extra wide and long planks, attached underlayment and 40mil wear layer. Some people don't like the bevel but we love it. The next best choice for us was the Coretec Plus, but it was $2 more per sq.ft and didn't look as good. We have a beach house and two 90-lb dogs that constantly bring gritty sand in on their paws. We've had the Modin in our master bedroom/bath and high traffic hallway for 9 months. This floor takes a beating and cleans up beautifully. The main negatives are the shipping cost plus having to deal with a freight company for delivery. But the company has been great to work with by phone with excellent response times and customer service. I always prefer to work with local dealers, but in the case, we have no regrets going with Flooret....See MoreRelated Professionals
