Style of new front stairs on ~1925 bungalow

Our old home had its original porch walled off to make a mud room at some point in its life. Today, the stairs terminate at the front door, making it a little bit unsafe for our less-than-stable visitors waiting at the front door. We're doing to replace the stairs with something that contains a 4' deep landing. Unfortunately, we won't be able to extend the overhang to cover it, but that's ok.

Current plan is to replace with wood stairs, wood railing, and wood skirting and paint later at some point. Width of landing and stairs equal all the way done to the ground. Thoughts? Objections? Just seeing what others think. Some others in our neighborhood have done similar things (some will trellis skirting, some with no skirting at all), while others have the landing wider than the stairs.
