Need advice to makeover my living room
Comments (14)Just some thoughts.......... I would definitely get rid of the behemoth entertainment center and get something smaller. The one you have now actually blocks part of the nice windows. You have a newer TV and don't need a big ET for it. I would just paint the end tables and coffee table maybe a matte black. They look sturdy and clean lined. When painted they would have a bit of an Asian influence and look more contemporary. Its cheaper to paint than to buy new ones. I would cover the planter and make it a ledge. I would install tiny pendant lights replacing the cam light overhead. This will help define the foyer area. Tiling the foyer area would help define it and be more functional since that area is where dirt and slush from outside land. I would paint out the backs of the book shelves. Also remove the doors on the bottom and put in some large baskets to hold your stuff. This would break up the big 'wall-o-wood' look that it has now. Use a warm color for the walls so that the wood wall blends in better. Since the paneling goes all the way to the ceiling, use a warmer white on the crown molding. Stark white is too harsh when lined up with the wood. Don't change the brick or the mantel. They go with the house. The fireplace looks very nice. Painting the screen to bring down the shininess would be better though. If you do not open and close the shutter doors and use them, I would remove them. Do you use the ceiling fan on the living room ceiling a lot? If so, you need to keep it of course but otherwise it could go. The idea to put a bar in place of the desk.......Do you NEED a bar near the foyer to offer guests a drink when they come in? If so, then it would work for your needs but I think a narrow cabinet or table would be the better choice. Consider adding a rug to anchor the furniture. Nice heavy drapes would make the room look cozy and balance things out. I would stick to solid color instead of a busy print for such a small room or use a print that is tone on tone....See MoreLooking for Living Room Decorating Advice
Comments (7)This is one idea I had in mind for a frieze. It looks like they took the ceiling color and brought it down onto the wall, then installed a picture rail. I have 9 ft ceilings and thought about making the frieze 1 ft. If I did this, I don't think I'd paint the picture rail. I'd stain it to match the rest of the millwork. I've also been considering installing a crown molding instead, but just throwing ideas around....See MoreLiving room redecorating. need help making my room look cozy and inter
Comments (8)Center the sofa on the far wall (where the TV currently is) and put the end tables on each side. Get matching table lamps (26"-30" tall) for the end tables. You can put a larger piece of art over the sofa. This will address the immediate focal point as you enter this room. Keep the loveseat where it currently is, centered on the wall between the windows (if there's enough room when you move the sofa). Place the coffee table in front of it. If you need to scooch it down a bit that's fine, but I generally like to try centering off of architectural features first. You're looking at an arrangement something like this: You can then purchase a TV cabinet/console that will go on the wall opposite the loveseat. There might then be enough room to get a pretty side chair to angle in to the seating area. With this arrangement, you address conversation needs and also TV viewing. I wouldn't do an accent wall. Just keep all of your paint light and neutral. The carpet you have is pretty ... if you like it keep it. It looks as if you've already pulled some colors from it for your throw pillows. I would remove your valances, you don't need them with your fabric shades. Pretty furniture and a nice start to your room!...See MoreLooking for Living Room layout advice, please! Comments (4)Your link takes us to the sign in page. What do you mean by accent wall colors...as in plural? One accent wall is sufficient and make sure you have something to accent. North rooms want warmth...consider B.M. Goldtone....See MoreRelated Professionals
