Do door trim and baseboards need to match window trim (style-wise)?

Does the style of my door trim need to match my window trim? I've got standard builder's colonial trim around everything, but need to replace the door trim and baseboards. I want to use block/square/craftsman 3 1/2" x 11/16" door trim, and the same style but (4 1/2" tall) for the base. I really don't want to pull out the window trim, but wonder if it will look awful to keep the existing window trim?

Strikes me as too many colors - better to rethink even the door trim or do everything darker, plus putting in just one element of 'an older style' may be lost in the overall design if it doesn't naturally flow or make sense in the space. But please remember I can't see your kitchen and I'm only guessing at what you're referring to and its/their relation to other things nearby.

I like baseboards larger than door and window casings. On door casings, I like your idea of same design/different width casings. Except maintain consistency like all doors in the old part of the house have the same narrower width casing. You don't want to look down a hallway, for example, and see different width casings on some than on others.

Mourning’s should be planned as part of the whole concept of the home. If the design of the home is truly Victorian it’s best to stick with Victorian trim. As to ceiling height there are plenty of homes with 8’ ceilings with wider trim as long as the trim is appropriate to the homes style. My last house was ‘transitional’ so we put in 5 1/2” baseboards and 3.5” casings plus 1/2” backband. My office is Victorian with 8 1/2’ ceilings with 7 1/2” baseboards and 4 1/2” casings.

What is the trim color in the rest of the house? If white, continue it in the kitchen. Bannister...post a photo.

IMO they do not have to match but it helps I think most of the window trim can be hidden with window coverings and at some time maybe think about repacing it.

I disagree too. I have black window trim and all the door trims in a stain. They work very well together as would any color. Look at the wood tones and white and doors, they all blend.

We have an old house. Much of the trim didn't match between the old 1850ish and the addition of 1889. No one ever noticed. If the size of the 2 trims don't compliment each other, that would be more of a giveaway.
