Comments (26)I want to apologize for not posting back much. As of right now, I have VERY limited access to the internet. MY laptop had a bad battery, and we never bothered to get a new one, we just used the power supply/charger all the time. Well, we burnt it up. Have been waiting for what seems like forever for our new one to arrive in the mail. We live out in the middle of nowhere....ugh. So, every now and then, I can sneak my kids laptop. Three teenagers use it, so, only at this time of night, when I lucky, I get a hold of it. Hopefully, I will be back on mine ASAP! Then you all will get tired of me ;P LOVING all the pics! hey_j - Thanks! I love crickets, too! I love all bugs actually.....well...except for earwigs and June bugs! They freak e out a bit! Ha! Hope all is doing well with this extreme heat we are having!!! Stay cool and enjoy your gardens through the windows! :)...See Morebest / favorite variegated small hosta(s)?
Comments (19)Thanks for the recommendations, folks! It gives me something to float by the parental units and keep an eye out for. Gesila, my folks are in TC. I suspect the nursery you're thinking of is in Interlochen. (I can't remember the name either.) It is AWESOME! But as I live down by Detroit, I rarely get there. The bed in Q is approx. 30ft x 2ft. There are plants (glads, astilbe, mums, etc) along the back of the bed & a trellis at one end which is why I'm looking at plants that are taller than mini's but top out at about 12inches. I would be planning on leaving some smallish spaces here and there along the front of the bed for colorful annuals such as wax begonias (which REALLY seem to like the raised bed). My preferance would be to not go the mail order route. I'm an apt dweller in the Detroit area so I don't get to my folks' place that often. I wouldn't want plants to arrive at my place and be growing them indoors for who knows how long, nor want them to be sitting in pots in TC for however long. Actually do have a couple Rainforest Sunrises planted up there. (One of my favorites truth be told.) I do think I prefer its appearance when grown with a bit of shade. The one that gets quite a bit more sun is a little too washed out I think. Hmm, I should probably ask my sis how tall and wide "Fire and Ice" and "Whirlwind" have gotten at her place -- though she lives in Adrian which is even further south than me so her conditions would be different. Her beds also get more shade as I recall...........See MoreGame time! My loss is your gain. Prize is a grp of 3 branches
Comments (78)Btw I'm jesse I'm very new to the plumeria forum as I have only been growing plumerias for about a year & 1/2 but I managed to get 8 plumies already and I want more as I'm addicted to them :). I mean who isn't after their first one?! I'm from Orange CA born and raised but currently live in riverside CA. Btw I would of never thought to root plumeria in water! I thought it would rott. I'm definitely going to try it when I get a cutting. When I bought some plumerias I was given 4 cutting that had a lot of green on them not that mature. I got them to root but it took forever. I put them in water to plump up because they were really soft by the time I got home (they were already kinda soft when I received them. They were free so I took them) and then I put rooting hormone on them the next day and mixed miracle grow soil with perlite and put them in 1 gallon pots with black stones ontop of the soil and watered good and put in direct sun and I did mist the cuttings so they wouldn't go soft again. I did water the soil every few days because in direct sun the soil dried out pretty quick. They did root I recently gave 2 away and I kept 2 I dont remember what Variety they are all I know they were some sort of pink. They bloomed but don't even remember how they look like I was on vacation when they started. now they have 3 branches on them. I feel that I did a good job for my first time at rooting plumeria cuttings. Now that I remember I also rooted another cutting along with those 4. It's a cutting that is very special to me know that was gifted to me by my Uncle when he saw I had just got into plumerias he already had 2 but he had bought some cuttings and he gave me one. When he gave me the cutting it had flowers on it and it was a Y the blooms I kind of remember were 2 or possibly 3 dark colors I remember I liked it a lot. When I first tried to root it I failed and it rotted so then had to save it and cut off and just kept 1 cutting that eventually rooted and now has formed another Y but haven't seen it bloom again. It's very special to me because my uncle has Gone to heaven this past December and he left me my last great gift that I will treasure. Anyways But I will definitely next time try the water rooting. Thanks for the info and I will look forwards in learning much more from you!...See MoreHosta S 2018 ....
Comments (62)So many wonderful S's! Thankfully I have some of these that I have not planted yet, but my goodness I could add at least one from every person who posted. Saija I got Silver Shadows and your pic makes me really happy I did. sunnywood I have Sara's Sensation. Yours is stunning! How long has it been in your garden and how large a plant did you start with? Thank you newhostalady. Smokey Mountains is one that has especially nice buds & quite nice flowers to add to it's character. Snow Cap is on Don Rawson's list of difficult to grow but it likes it here. I grow 5 others that are on the list that have given me no trouble at all. GE is also on the list but you certainly have no issues growing it to perfection!...See Moremac48025 ( SE michigan)
