Mardi Gras Mask
Comments (3)Shysue, Thanks for the help. I spent quite a while reading the sites about making a Mardi Gras mask. They pretty much told how to make a whole mask from start to finish. The young lady and her mother came over today with feathers, ribbons, beads, etc., the white plastic, flimsy half mask and a 12" dowel rod, and three hours later we had created a mask to be proud of. She was so excited. I've done a lot of crafts including floral design, but that's the first time I created a fancy Mardi Gras mask. She got away before I got a photo of it, but says she'll hang in on her bedroom wall when the pageant is over. Thanks again! Rosie...See Moresewing fabric masks
Comments (36)The usefulness of the mask is a function of what it is being used for. While a fabric mask can't block the spread of the virus, it can capture most of the spittle that one ejects when one speaks, coughs or sneezes which is the primary form of virus transmission. Especially for those who are forced to be in close quarters with others, it can help prevent the spread of the disease. And a close fitting mask of fabric is better than a bandana tied around the face. It protects others from the wearer rather than vice versa. But the more who wear it, the more community protection everyone receives. While I wouldn't recommend them for medical personnel who are forced to be in close quarters with infected people for hours a day, it is thought to be of benefit to the general populace. Q: What mistakes are other countries making? A: The big mistake in the U.S. and Europe, in my opinion, is that people aren’t wearing masks. This virus is transmitted by droplets and close contact. Droplets play a very important role—you’ve got to wear a mask, because when you speak, there are always droplets coming out of your mouth. Many people have asymptomatic or presymptomatic infections. If they are wearing face masks, it can prevent droplets that carry the virus from escaping and infecting others.Source...See MoreRant - Hey non mask wearer, stop being selfish and wear a mask!!!!
Comments (103)I have a mask story to add (not a rant , since none of my loved ones were endangered). A few weeks ago, I ran into an old friend. She lives, and works, in the small village where I grocery shop, and we were both there during designated senior hours. She recognized me, although I was wearing a mask, but she wasn't wearing one. I asked if she had a mask, and she said that she had only one, disposable, which she was saving for the days she had to take her father to his medical appointments. I asked if she'd like me to make her a fabric mask, and she graciously accepted. I dropped it off to her the same day, with some shop towel filters, as I was on my way to drop off my father's groceries. Today, as I was leaving the grocery store, she was arriving--sans mask. I jokingly asked why she wasn't wearing her mask, and she said that she didn't think she needed it unless she was in close quarters with others. When I pointed out that by wearing a mask she was protecting others, she responded that she didn't need it because she's "been good." I'm disappointed that I gave her one of my nice, 600TC Egyptian cotton face masks, and she doesn't wear it. :[ At least she has it if she changes her mind....See MoreFloof: How many masks do you have?
Comments (42)I made 4 double layer nuzzles with a filter pocket. They are a PIA. They fog up my glasses, hot, reduce breathing and muffled talking. So I made 2 out of a pkg of reusable wipes I had hanging around. Single layer, light, breathable and cooler. I probably will have to make two more cause sometimes I'm out several times a week. Unless visibly dirty I just rotate them....See Moresas95
