Perfume rant...
Comments (67)I remember buying my first perfume when I was about 14. It was Christian Dior's "old" "Miss Dior" perfume (they have changed it and it no longer smells the same at all). I was SO proud to own "real" french perfume, not Coty from the drug store. I wore perfume daily until I started going to pulmonary rehab 13 years ago this August - it's not allowed there, and I now often forget to even put it on for church or going out to dinner. I've had several fragrances I've worn over the years" Dior's "Miss Dior", Patou's "Joy", "Guerlein's "Shalimar" in college, Karl Lagerfield's "Chloe", Piguet's "Fracas" and now Caron's "Pois de Senteur". What these all had in common was that they were classic fragrances known for being "subtle". "Shalimar" was the strongest but it was nothing like perfume today. The first time I was bothered by perfume was in college when I think my entire dorm wore Estee Lauder's "Youth Dew" perfume, and the body wash, and the body lotion, and the bath powder. My gawd, on a Friday or Saturday night, one could smell that dorm a block away! The next offensive one was "Georgio" - it always gave me a terrible headache. Now, most of today's perfumes appear to bother a LOT of people. What is the difference? No one used to ever complain about someone's perfume - in fact, one was often complimented on it. It's the new perfumes that are totally synthetic (no flowers lost their lives for these perfumes!), and have bases to make them stronger. They're awful - they are almost as awful as Febreeze, which makes me ill. Just try renting a car where the previous person smoked in it (illegally), and then the car rental company doused it in Febreeze. Prepare for a migraine! Many of the old fragrances no longer exist or have been changed to the point of being unrecognizable. It's such a shame that this has happened, but nothing is very subtle anymore, is it....See MoreSwim mask and snorkel vs face mask
Comments (77)Thanks, sleeve. I have an 11 yr old opened BOS of the no vent N95 respirators. Date says (c) 2002 or close. Time flies. I think these were for SARS outbreak. surprisingly the yellow rubber like bare elastic is still good. The exhaust vent types were purchased in early January 2020. No one of my siblings wants any, saying that their too uncomfortable. I mostly stay HOME. We don't socialize, and make very few trips out. But, yesterday was a gorgeous day and I went with a masked neighbor who seems very careful to buy some tomato plants, lettuces, organic milk and deli salads (darn pricy) at at super aware country store. Only a couple people in at a time with masks, distancing and no bags from elsewhere. Half gal milk = $7.75 in glass bottle ($1.50 if return bottle). A cup of bean salad, $4. I will figure out their recipe. I put it through the mass spectrometer in my mouth. I wore an old, non vented N95 and safety goggles. Mask was u o for table and hot. I DID keep messing with it, so was glad I was pretty much in the clean rural woodsy boondocks. (But you never know). When we passed through a working class small city, I went into a store for wine. I had on my gear, the cashier had on a cowboy bandana. A 30-ish woman came into the store, o mask, and barbed into my shelf area. I left For the cashier. She was right behind me, no mask, no distance, no sense. I asked her to please back up (like 5 feet!). She had a bunch of pink and lavender colored toy wine. She looked at me as though I’d told her that there was a deadly global pandemic. Meh. No worries. No cares. My friend encountered a couple of women in a grocery store. No mask, crowding her. She asked them why they were not wearing a mask. They fired back that it was their freedom of choice, blah blah. The State is on MASK rules if outside your home. Oh, and distance. What is with these clueless people. Flyovers are okay, but how about some public service announcement, mini tutorials on infection control? Think I might tell the next maskless fool who won’t keep back that, oops! You e got something stuck on your face! Then disappear as they rubs cooties into their fave with dirty hands. I won’t do it. But what is with the clueless, right to infect others, mask-less zombies? At least they didn’t shoot us in the back of the head (Recent MI news). I spotted a 25Lb bag or organic, unbleached, AP flour for $25. Maybe I should go back to the clean store for it. But that’s a lotta flour....See MoreFinally...our state is requiring masks
Comments (95)I totally agree with wearing masks and I think Arcy makes a good point. Many businesses in my area are now starting to require masks. BUT, it really depends on if the requirement is enforced. I can see a small business (such as my hair salon) asking someone to put on a mask or leave. I cannot see this happening in my local grocery store. It could cause a big disruption and as far as I know, there are no security personnel in the store. I just can't see the store manager making someone leave. There are just too many people out there who are so against being told to wear a mask. I don't understand it, but I have seen so many comments on line where people are stating they absolutely will not wear a mask and "you can't make me". There are many who do believe it takes away our personal freedom. Actually, I have a friendly acquaintance that has always been a wonderful person, helps others, goes that extra mile, etc. I was quite frankly shocked when I read a FB post where she (very nicely) explained that she does not believe the masks are helping and that it is her personal freedom to not wear a mask. While I just cannot fathom her thinking, it is something we will have to agree to disagree on. It just blows my mind, but there seem to be alot of people with that mindset. Again, I am only accountable for my own actions and I try not to judge others (and sometimes that's really hard!). Today I will go to the produce market and the post office. If I come upon someone without a mask, I steer clear, even turn my head from them....See MoreBe kind
Comments (57)"maybe this comparison will clarify why paper/cloth masks are ineffectual." "The others are too porous and gap too much to stop viruses from passing through them." THEN WHY DOES THE CDC (that place, you know, where scientists and really smart people work) RECOMMEND PEOPLE WEAR MASKS? This is straight from the CDC: CDC recommends that people wear cloth face coverings in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain. Cloth face coverings may help prevent people who have COVID-19 from spreading the virus to others. Cloth face coverings are most likely to reduce the spread of COVID-19 when they are widely used by people in public settings. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/cloth-face-cover-guidance.html I'll listen to the CDC - that place where scientists and really smart people work - before I'll ever listen to you, Raye Smith. And I hope others do too....See MoreRelated Professionals
