need help making my sorry house look better despite my limitation
Comments (6)Here is a picture I pulled up off google maps as well. with a question regarding the wood fence in the right corner. Is there a point to these fences? It was here so we haven't touched it as i am not sure it's purpose. We have since planted daylilies in that area. what do you think of a rose hedge across the back from post to post. this area gets full sun, the soil is sand, the grass hardly grows but the daylilies have taken to it fine and i do have shrub roses that i need a spot for. They're red, and just small and were originally purchased to go along the side where the weed problem is, but then i realized if i needed to take them 30 inches from the wall it interferes with traffic in and out of the gate to the back. any and all suggestions are welcome. to note, the front garden lining the patio pavers gets full sun mostly, closest to the house there is an area that gets shade and is getting hostas. the garden infront of the house along where teh windows are gets mostly shade until that corner, and i wanted to put potted hostas in there, and possibly line coleus in, or caladiums. wasn't sure how tall caladiums get. I have also considered an urn in place of the small square planter on the walkway....See MoreHelp Me Make My House Look More Like A Cottage. Photos
Comments (16)FlowerLady here, and a bit freaked as several have said I would know what to do here. YIKES! I've been gardening on a shoe string for years. I grow natives, shrubs, annuals, perennials, roses, herbs. I live in the s.e. part of the state though. I have not been able to grow lavender here, except as an annual. It does not like the humidity. I love my roses, jasmine, cat's whiskers, moses in the bullrushes, basket plants, snake plants, ferns, plumeria, bougainvillea, crotons, plumbago, hibiscus, palms, succulents, Mexican heather, Mexican bush sage, Mexican petunias, chicory, elephant ears, aloe, flame vines, other flowering vines, orchids and many others. I grow from seeds and cuttings. I just mingle everything together for my own kind of tropical cottage garden. Visit the Florida Gardening forum here at GW. I'll leave a link at the bottom and you will get lots of great ideas for your part of the state. Check out what people are growing in your area also and look in garden centers. I love your house and think you will have lovely gardens once you are moved in and playing in the dirt. What are the little shrubs in your circular garden surrounding the palm tree? Whatever you do, don't stress, just have fun as your garden comes together. It's an ongoing process, something to enjoy every day. Comments (9)We've lived in our 1997 single wide (16x80) for 7 years. For the first couple we were in a mobile home park and then moved it to our own property. Within the last couple of years we have done some remodeling work. We had to replace the walk-in shower in the master bath and had to go to a Mobile Home Supply store for that (fortunately my nephew is the owner and we were able to get his pricing). The rest of the items we've replaced have been standard from Lowe's or Home Depot: -replaced the plastic sink and faucet in master bath with ceramic sink and stainless faucet -replaced plastic sink in kitchen with single bowl stainless, replaced the faucet & added an under counter water filter (just a week ago!) -replaced all light fixtures and ceiling fans with standard fixtures/fans -replaced some of the light switches with standard ones -replaced almost all of the door knobs (inside doors and outside doors) with standard brushed nickel one We have added beadboard in both baths, the back door hallway and as a backsplash in the kitchen. We've textured and painted. Changed all cabinet hinges and pulls in kitchen and both baths. So far in two years, we haven't had any problems with cracking walls. We are working now on the living room and hall - texturing and painting. We've replaced bathroom flooring with vinyl and just a few weeks ago, put Allure Trafficmaster wood look vinyl in the kitchen. Everyone who walks in (we use the back door mostly) comments on how it doesn't even look like a mobile home (I call it my cottage - my really long, shotgun cottage - lol) We plan on being here a very long time and are very pleased with the quality of our home. I've added a link to see some of the pictures of what we've done. I don't have pictures of my new kitchen sink yet. I hope you enjoy your home....See MoreDo these photos make my house's butt look big and estate-like?
Comments (29)I like pictures 1 and 4. Yes, the lake (pond, whatever) isn't huge. But if someone doesn't like that I think better to find out sooner rather than later. Actually I don't think the landscaping looks too bare on picture 1. I do note that I would have to build a fence but that is OK since I can build my own. Picture 4 is interesting. I think it actually makes your house look great and is very inviting. At the same time, it would cause me to cross your house off my list. Why? I absolutely 100% do not want and will not buy a house where I have to go up and down that many steps in the back. In fact, when were looking for houses earlier in the year I rejected several houses with very similar backs. Some people might say that is a reason not to use that picture as it might turn off some people. I think of as a service to not waste your time or that of a buyer. If I would reject a house over that feature I'm not going to suddenly change my mind if I go and look at the house. I would rather know in advance and not waste the seller's time by even setting up an appointment....See Moreworthy
