Gardening Videos
Comments (26)Annette, I picked up Great Gardens of England from the library Tuesday and have watched all four DVDs. Although I enjoyed walking through all those gardens and listening to their owners comments, this video set wasn't what I was expecting. I guess I thought I'd be going to gardens like Sissinghurst or the ones at very large estates or public gardens in England, with huge castles and a maze or two. But glad I watched them before I purchased the set. Sure do give a person a wealth of ideas though, plus I was amazed that the gardeners did all that tending and work themselves! Simply gorgeous borders, and the woodland gardens were wonderful. Those were my favorites I think. All that planning and designing, whew. Thanks for the heads up on this DVD set. My cousin saw it on the "hold" shelf at the library before I picked it up and wrote me a note saying "I wished that I had reserved this!"...See MoreTrellis Netting from Burpee (warning)
Comments (18)If you know some friends who all replace netting often, try going in together on a roll of concrete reinforcing mesh, or see if a home supply store will sell it to you by the foot. 1. It will last just about forever. (One piece I have outlasted the first set of wood poles I had it attached to and is still going strong.) 2. Nothing short of a tree landing on it will warp it once secured on the ends. 3. The 6" squares in the mesh make it very convenient to mark off planting areas and allow easy reach-through for weaving and harvesting. 4. It generally does not need a top support when run across a 4' bed. If trellising melons, I do weave through a stick or length of re-bar to stiffen it some 5. Can easily be tied to simple T-posts on either end, or stapled to wood posts. 6. Natural red-brown color (rust) blends readily into a garden setting 7. The 5' width is a good height lengthwise across a bed, or leaves 6" on either edge if building a taller trellis over a 4' wide bed....See MoreTDS vs. HughesNet.
Comments (9)Grandms-- It is my understanding that Verizon 4G LTE is distributed via towers, like their cell phone signal. Verizon supplies Fios about 6 miles north of my house and Time Warner offers cable service, computer and phone 6 miles south. I have heard that neither they, nor any other provider is about to service the sparsely populated farmland in between Verizon and Time Warner. I guess the government thinks TDS and satellite service is good enough for us. I sold a very nice in-town colonial home in order to move to the country. At that time I had 4 Siberian huskies and although having four dogs in my former town was legal, my neighbors were unhappy that I had put up chain link fence to keep them from wandering. I was planning to retire at 62 so I sold the house and used the money, after paying off the mortgage, to buy 5 country acres. I fenced in an acre with 6 foot chain link for the dogs and built a double-wide for my retirement home. I am down to one dog now and have sadly learned that manufactured homes deteriorate quickly and farm land is still cheap. I can't afford to return to house after house on 80 by 100 lots but I really don't want to. I do love the peace and quiet out here. Nobody cares about dogs kept inside a fence, I had to sign a paper that I was about to build in an area of farms and that I would be smelling animal odors and hearing farm equipment, but I still prefer it here rather than the very small city I left....See MoreBlueberry Bird Netting
Comments (1)I'm in the berries. I made a nice job with netting and put boards down so the chipmunks could't get in. It worked! Here is yesterday's harvest!...See More- 6 years ago
