Help decorating Great Room open to Kitchen
Comments (23)I thought I would post an update and thank all those who offered suggestions. We ended with a version of #3. We still don't have a table for the corner of the 2 couches, but have a place holder there. We plan to put a natural wood table (cheap black place holder now to see how we like it) behind the kitchen backed couch that can have 2 stools and will then get 2 small ottomans to place under a table we plan to place in the window that will also have a few lamps and plants. (the huge dog bed is only there for a temporary dog guest....) We were very pleased to see there is plenty of room to walk around and we both enjoy how we live the other 90% of our lives in this room -- watching TV, surfing, and listening to music and reading. No recliners, but the coffee table is natural wood and metal and is fine for putting feet on and even sitting if needed. It also has 4 huge drawers for laptop storage, games, books, etc. If anyone has window treatment ideas -- feel free! The room needs some color and patterns. The rug is black, sage, tan, crimson. The shelves are a work in progress.......See MoreNeed Layout Help!! Front door opens into small living room.
Comments (14)I like your rearrangement. Now for suggestions.....The coffee table is too big. I would like to see a round ottoman there. I would put your little mirrors around the bookcase...three to each side. Get a end table with lamp for the end of your couch nearest the dining room. Maybe a tall plant on the other end of your couch. To soften the room, if you want to, I would get some sheer curtains for the windows Also I would pull your sectional out away from the windows...looks sort of shoved in. Pretty dogs....See MoreSmall awkward open layout, big usage needs... help!
Comments (1)Pics of the actual space are always needed , the drawing needs to be able to be enlarged and I need more info . For instance how many times do you need a dining table how many people need to have seating then? Do you have bedrooms and how many . I have a 15 x 25 " LR and there is no way I could fit all of the stuff you have in that space I think your dining table either needs to do double duty as a desk or be gone and what is on the bookshelf? Since it is not close to the desk I assume not work related and in that case needs to go. That sectional is way too big for the space it barely allows walkspace around it and certainly no one sitting at the table Waht are the spaces around this space ?...See MoreHelp with Furniture Layout in Open Floor Plan Great Room
Comments (10)The (real, licensed) architect drew in the same layout we’ve seen in suburban model homes everywhere. He freely admitted that these layouts are not his strong suit and didn’t want to spend any time in it. I didn’t share the drawing because I don’t want to get hung up on tweaking the original idea. I thought starting with a blank slate would inspire more creativity. Also, I’d prefer to have a round dining table for better interaction when we’re all together. I’d also like to avoid placing the TV above the fireplace if there are better alternatives....See More- 4 years ago
