Hi Anita, Was hoping someone else would jump in since I only have experience with one of the plants you asked about. We do have Scarlet's Peak Yaupon growing north of a fence and our neighbor's large live oak; so it's in full sun through most of the summer months and shaded to some degree at other times. It's now about 8 ft tall, which puts its growth rate at about a foot per year since we planted it in the fall of 2016. It's a very nice vertical accent and does reliably produce berries. Though the slender profile offers little potential for screening and it holds the berries close which keeps them less visible at a distance than other hollies. Those are at least a couple differences to consider when comparing with a female selection of weeping yaupon.

We've purchased a couple very nice hard to find tree cultivars from Whitman Farms. They have a couple listings for Cotinus obovatus in the more shipable 1 gal size. Think you probably still have to call for shipping cost... an unfortunate expense, but was not as bad as expected or have experienced with other mail-order large plant sources. I agree it's better to stick with Texas lines for native plants, but for named cultivars or hybrids that are not readily available from local growers, will risk trying ones started in the PNW.

Try Texas Persimmon, Western Soapberry, Goldenball Leadtree, Eve's Necklace, Texas Mountain Laurel, etc.

Thanks! I ended up buying weeping Yaupons earlier this week. Scarlet's peak had been recommended to me as a narrow holly that is resilient in Texas. However, the more I read about it, it appears to not be uniform in growth. The weeping yaupon can be pruned in a uniform manner.
