Ideas for screening tricky driveway area?
Comments (2)These are the site's instructions on how to post a photo (I've never done it, so I can't tell you how): http://faq.gardenweb.com/faq/lists/pepper/2002072150000611.html When you go to "Preview Message," your photo should show up (if you posted the photo itself) or your link should show up (if you posted a link to the photo). If the photo doesn't show up or the link isn't good (click on it to see), then you'll have to go back and try again. Good luck....See MoreNeed help finding extremely narrow privacy/screening shrub
Comments (20)Without a photo I am having a difficult time understanding why privacy is needed at the front end of your driveway which presumably leads to the public street? One would think privacy activities take place in the back yard. That said it is your right to want it :) But eighteen inches of width and a desired height of eight feet that behaves and stays that size is a tall order- it would be my opinion that anything you do is going to require more maintenance than it is worth unless pruning is your favorite hobby. I don't think DeGroot's would be good for privacy as they are so narrow toward the top. I have three in a group and while they are one of the best looking arborvitaes I have their use is more architectural than screening. Mine have gone from a couple of feet to approximately six/seven feet in five years. How long are you willing to wait? And I have to say that the thought of pruning a plant as naturally perfect in form as a DeGroot's makes me a little ill. Again, without a photo it is difficult to say but I would plant something thick and screening down as far as was practical and then use decorative boulders in the narrowest section. Or surprise my wonderful neighbor with some plants that he could plant on his side of the fence. Maybe a neighborly discussion is in order?...See MoreOrnamental grass for privacy screen
Comments (2)You don't have enough room for even the smallest of grasses. Also, grasses must be cut back in early spring and take several months to regain their growth so it wouldn't provide much of a screen for several months in early spring to early summer. I don't see why you can't put in posts to attach something to add height to the four foot fence--10-12 feet should be enough to put in a post, and grow a tough vine like Aristochia on whatever you attach to the post....See MoreNeed help with area between 2 driveways: privacy etc.
Comments (11)Thank you! I love how that obscures the view!!! That's an intersting idea. I love the curving wall. (I have a BS in architecture...but it was a long time ago. ) That curve along the edge of the driveway where you put the retaining wall against it, is the lowest part of the driveway. In Feb/March, when things are icy/melty, that's the trickiest part, because that's where the water crosses the driveway. things I fogot to mention.... Also, the driveway turnaround is tight. (When I designed it, I knew it would be tight, but it works, so I'm happy!) So, along that edge, keeping things low is probably a good idea. Also, my grade lines are... iffy, at best. :) Here is a view from the back, if that's helpful. I'm proud of the screened in porch. I designed it; my husband built it. What about a row of arborvita... although, I kind of hate to do that.......See MoreNHBabs z4b-5a NH
