Drilling into tile can be done, but you have to be very, very careful. Plus that, it might be difficult to determine where the studs were for placement given the thickness of tile over your cement board or whatever is behind it. Have you looked into the Moen Magnetix shower heads? We have 5 of these in 2 family homes and love them. We installed our first ones about 4 years ago and liked them so well we kept replacing other shower heads with them. They dock very securely, have a variety of spray functions, and come in several finishes. We have purchased 3 of the finishes, and they all hold up well. The larger spray heads don't have as good of pressure according to reviews as the smaller spray heads, so all 5 of ours are the smaller ones and work great. The type of bar you are picturing is more of what I'd consider to be an accessible setup for someone who might be handicapped and needs to sit in a shower chair during showering, so the head can be raised and lowered as needed. If this is your situation, then perhaps you can call in an expert to assess the possibility of installation.

Thank you! I was thinking of the bar because the shower head is not “short person friendly” but I like the ease of install of the shower head only. I have a Moen shower head now, so hopefully the Magnetix is compatible with the fitting coming out of the wall.

I believe we used a Delta fitting coming out and a Moen Magnetix shower head. The industry is fairly standardized when it comes to those fittings. Also note that the Magnetix shower heads do have a range of motion even when docked where you can point them down lower. If the spray is missing you entirely, though, you might want to look into a new base fitting that will point downward more. They make all kinds of pipe shapes that you can interchange. You'd have to change that at the wall, so not sure in your case how tough that would be. You also might want to look into other brands of shower heads that point further down, which I think was the point of your original post now that I understand your problem better.

I put slider bars in all the showers except this one. I think I bought the shower head that matched the sink faucet and was in stock. I recall not wanting to make any more decisions or spend more money at the time. Dumb!
