Lets see the exterior picture.

Just remove the window and board it up?Will there be different sized windows going back in? Is the inside to wall to be finished? Are you going to hire a general contractor for the whole project or play the general? Even if you answer all the questions it will be hard to pin point a price, best bet is getting a few bids and have a plan in place

Try covering the portion of the windows that would be removed with opaque paper or cardboard and see if you can live with the reduction in natural light first. From your photo it appears that the bay window provides much of the room's light.

We actually want to do the same thing for the same reason. Did you end up doing it? If so how much was it?

We did!! we ended uo doing it ourselfs. 😬 Our kitchen is still a work in progress. We moved the large window in. I can add pics tomotrow!

Had a contractor tell us 6500 and pella said they could’t do it. Waiting on a couple other contractors estimates.

That bay window looks as if its built into the house. I dont know how you would remove that bay window unless you do major construction and that would be extremely expensive. Most window companies wouldnt touch that with a ten foot pole.

@Window Genius My window isn't structural but taking it out would include duct, and sub floor work. Then your talking about replacing it you would have to frame, insulate, plywood, house wrap, exterior soffit, new window and match siding or external framing. Interior would include dry wall installation.

But its the only way to extend our kitchen, its a must. I have no idea why you would put a bay window in a kitchen, cuts off the space.

That isn’t a bay window. Those are three windows in a bay. It’s seems like a small distinction, but it matters structurally.

@Therese N can you expand on that? I was unaware of the distinction. Is it because the bay comes down to the floor?

No, and I need to start noticing the dates 😏. Anyway a bay window is generally one whole unit installed in one opening. I noticed that this installation included studded walls that three separate windows are installed within. That difference in construction can make a difference, depending on the level of DIY skill a homeowner has.

We are panning to take out w window seat and replace with a coffee bar and cabinets. I'd love to see pictures from anyone who has removed their bay window.

I have almost identical 45 degree bay window in dining room without the bench seat offering view of fence and neighbour's windows. Using same footings I'm replacing entire bay with square end pushed out wall with a 15degree pitch roof window replacing the original bay roof for privacy plus 50% more sunrise light. I'll retain original interior bulkhead so roof window is hidden and light spills from above. Result is a feature alcove with a great spot for a new painting and much better than looking at a fence or neighbour.

I'll have the finished design dwgs and a render in the new year then work will begin in March taking approx 4weeks. I also intend to bump out the light well making the alcove deeper than the original bay. This will have create a more dramatic effect and impact on the dining room space and the natural light effects. I'll post photos as soon as the remodeling is complete.

@Therese N I disagree with your description of what qualifies as a bay window. The original 'bay window' was a bow window that became an add on pushed or bumped out bay for a window seat with glazing. The number of windows is actually irrelevant, the structure itself defines the concept and the term for a bay with window(s)
