millworkman- The biggest concern is for horizontal or near horizontal surfaces, like curbs. I have one shower that has a track at the bottom for the sliding door. It rests on the curb in a bed of silicone but is only mechanically attached at each end with a clip that has a single stainless steel screw into the wall, and the screwholes and screws were are well-siliconed. The problem is that if you penetrate a water-proofed, horizontal surface, it has to remain perfectly caulked forever because water does not drain away quickly as it does on vertical surfaces. That is one of the reasons I prefer to see clips used only on wall surfaces, and to have the bottom edge of the glass siliconed to the floor/threshold.

My shower is an odd size and the company made a custom pan with the cultured marble material. It's a textured matte white, so doesn't look like the typical vanity material with the wisps of color and a shiny surface. Of course, a pan's practicality decreases when the area is huge and you have to get it into position! I don't understand why zero entry wouldn't work. You need about 4 feet for the drain slope, anyway. Another foot will allow for a more gradual height change and a configuration allowing wheelchair access. I wish I had the room to plan for age/injury limitations. Take a look at Elphaba's bathroom/shower. Tiled pan, large 5x5 shower, no door. I've always loved Mydreamhome's 4x8 curbed shower, scroll for her pics.

@Nancy in Mich, thanks for the details. I just found your bathroom reveal post too. I'm glad you're happy with the outcome. I have been reading about the pros and cons of cultured marble; I had checked out swanstone (not available near me - Canada); I'm only seeing solid stone panels showing up on box store sites but will keep looking. The contractor, who does accessible bathrooms tends to use cultured marble from a particular local manufacturer and say it's great. According to that company's website, "It is possible to repair scratches, chips, and minor blemishes. A repair person can re-buff the surface or patch with a special mixed gel-coat compound." They also say " Cultured marble is easy to care for and keep clean. Simply squeegee after each shower to quickly remove water drops from walls and to clean, you can use most non-abrasive cleaners. If hard water deposits accumulate, they can be dissolved with vinegar applied from a spray bottle. Cultured marble that has lost its shine can be restored by using Gel-Gloss or Counter Top Magic once a year. " Of course they'll say their product is awesome, right? ;) I do recall from years ago my parents had a bathroom vanity with cultured marble all in one countertop and sink bought from a box hardware. It didn't last forever and eventually had to be replaced. Hopefully quality is different now. Also, it might be easier on a wall than a basin that is collecting all kinds of liquids and such. Right now the bathroom is too narrow for dad to go in with his walker; thankfully there's a long vanity counter he holds onto, and when going in the tub, there are grab bars and mom is there to guide him. We'll likely go 0-threshold to allow him turning space with his walker. He also has low vision and one eye has no sight so balance is a concern. Thank God he has never fallen in the bathroom. The reno plan will unfortunately mean a small vanity and essentially no storage. I'm going to start a thread to get some ideas because no one who has come out has any ideas. The main reason is that widening to door will take up their linen closet and most of where the current vanity is. I do wonder about the comfort of a tile floor - seems it would be chilly and hard on the soles of one's feet so you'd need slippers all the time. Dad already wears them but not mom. That will be an adjustment. It'll take some more work trying to find something with sufficient texture and slip resistance while being comfortable for standing on. Did you buy your new shower curtain online? It's hard to find heavy weighted ones in the local stores anymore.

I've had my Glacier White Corian countertops now for nearly 35 years. I had an integrated Corian large single sink installed in the existing countertops 16 1/2 years ago. Best sink EVER!!!! And I reused my Corian countertops when I did a kitchen remodel 3 years ago, and added a new 5 ft section which matches perfectly. I cannot imagine ANY other surface being as hard wearing and easy to keep! Yes, there are tiny scratches on the Corian. They are exactly like the tiny scratches sterling silver flatware gets when used. They all come together and it is called "patina"!. Stains? They wipe right off! Ask my DD in a household with a messy SAHH and two boys who are now teens but grew up with this stuff. NO MALE in that house is careful with this countertop and a lot of cooking goes on as well!!! Corian is used in hospital operating rooms due to it's anti-bacterial qualities. It is used extensively in very high end houses in Europe and the UK. Only in the US has it now come under the "urban legend" that it's "low end" and not as desirable as quartz or granite. It's a remarkable product and even with an unlimited budget, I would have no other.
