Comments (48)Thanks! Housetohome--I actually e-mailed them two years ago about it when the show first came out--got pretty much the same response--although they said something about looking into it (which they obviously didn't because they still don't know!). I don't think her tile is identical to the one I got, but it's close. The tile I got was on the low end of Walker-Zanger. I don't think they still make it. It's the Orielle line 4X6 subway tiles in Tanager (green). I think it was $11.50/sf (which I thought was ASTRONOMICAL at the time...then I started pricing out marble basketweave for our bathroom floor!! Yikes!) I have seen some that are a little more "uniform" lately--these are all handmade tiles with a glaze on that red pottery-type tile--so they aren't all identical as you can see from the picture. I kind of like it, but I can imagine that some people might not. But still today, when I wander through our local tile shop, I still like Walker-Zanger the best--fits the decor of our old house the best. Oh, and kpaquette, the befores really were legendary on gardenweb at the time...and certainly not in a good way. Disgusting and completely disfunctional!! Eeew!! I don't even want to remember what that looked like--we were living in the front of the house at the time with the 80's apartment kitchen and our tenant (who was the previous owner--sold it to us as long as he could rent back for two years) had this kitchen. As I walk through the house, it's hard to imagine now how it was split up into a two-family. Amazing how quickly you can get used to spaces, I tell you!! :) Sarah...See MoreIs the trend still no pantyhose?
Comments (33)Unless it is summer and I'm wearing a sundress or casual dress, I wear them. This is MN and we are often cold--nothing worse than having cold legs at work, church, or an event. Needless to say we are also not as fashion-forward as other areas of the country. They are practical here. I do try to find very silky, good quality pantyhose for that Kate Middleton look. I think they can look lovely and polished with a nice dress. My aging legs are happy with them!...See More"White boxing" latest trend in Real Estate
Comments (40)Late to the party, but I can see this happening when you have a property that is otherwise unremarkable and in dire need of renovation, and has locations/views. If it is not a historic home or does not have great inherent features, but is just in need of an entire renovation, I think it might be a benefit to the buyer to know that the walls have been opened up already so the risk of surprises in the wall during renovation are eliminated. The downside is that people often want to move walls and change layouts as well. It dawned on me that our last purchase was this way -- essentially it was a stripped down condo and bare when shown -- but they completed work to a required point (it may have been required there to process a sale). We were able to pick finishes and alter certain things before completion....See MoreIs the gray walls and white kitchen cabinets trend still on?
Comments (30)Hi Kate, We live in NYC area, go to several open houses a month, many are multi million dollar properties. On this end the answer is "no." Grey is very popular here and sends a mental note to perspective buyers that the property has been updated. Anything that is beige screams "builder" and all white walls translates to "landlord-rental paint" Currently, buyers here shudder at anything in the orangy-red colors. I've heard countless people mumble at open houses "we'd have to redo the floors" when presented with outdated, bright orangey colored wood floors. White kitchens and subway tile is received with relief and enthusiasm. Having said that, "grey" comes in so many different shades that it's easy for everyone to find one they like. Agree with everyone above though, find what you like and go with it! We have lots of grey in our home and love it, but our grey is in paint only and at that, on accent walls. I could easily have it changed in a heartbeat....See Morebpath
