is mosaic virus carried in all fig trees?
Comments (22)Like everybody else, I don't like this fig mosaic virus. It's my wish to have trees that don't have this disease. Once you start collecting, there's a huge risk you'll come across a diseased cutting/fig tree. If you are selling or trading cuttings, don't sell, don't trade 'clones' that would carry this FMV into other people's back yards, so to speak. Not all trees have this FMV. There are some countries where it's very hard to spot a tree with FMV symptoms. It's not because they are asymptomatic. It's because the infection is not there.Or perhaps some of the viruses that belong to this collection of viruses that is known as FMV, are not present. And the 'signs' don't show. The truth is, research on this subject is in its infancy. http://oregonstate.edu/dept/nurspest/fig_masaic_virus.htm This post was edited by jesj1852 on Wed, May 8, 13 at 16:24...See MoreIs there something about this flu that we're not being told?
Comments (63)Well, Alisande, during a flu outbreak, every one should wash their hands multiple times a day. But I do not think this administration engineered a swine flu outbreak to push a health care bill, as has been suggested. Nor do I believe this was some sort of terrorist attack. That was suggested up-thread. The Center for Disease Control (CDC), and the World Health Organization (WHO) have been totally transparent in their tracking of this disease. Case zero has been discovered - we know where it came from. It was a child living near a pork factory in Mexico. He got ill and recovered, but not before passing the virus on to others. No conspiracy....See MoreVirus? Disease? :(
Comments (10)tsugajunkie z5 SE WI - The roots of the Mokara Salaya look great. Putting out plenty of new growth. To look at the roots of the Lc. Fire Island, I would need to break the pot. The roots I can see look normal, but clearly something is going on. shavedmonkey - They are both in different rooms than the rest of my orchids now. The Lc. was moved right after it bloomed, the Mokara was moved yesterday. jane__ny - The flowers on the LC. looked normal except they only lasted a day. No spots or anything. And more flowers than I've ever had on that plant before - a total of 7 buds! All bloomed but some didn't even fully open before dropping. The Mokara has yet to bloom for me. laticauda - I have not called the county but can do so. Today I'm headed to the same reputable greenhouse where I purchased the Mokara in October. I will show them the photos to see if they can diagnose. The head of their orchid house is also a part of the MOS (Massachusetts Orchid Society). I have not joined as meetings are at the worst possible time over an hour from my home, but it's worth talking with them. Has anyone seen rings like I have on the Mokara? I'm pretty sure the Lc. is a goner :(...See MoreNumbers of Virus Cases Usless?
Comments (29)Alberta tests more people per capita than anywhere in the world. It's why our numbers have gone up so much in the past week: we now test ANYONE with ANY symptoms. A lot of people may think it's just their allergies, but nope: Covid. It's important to test no matter what symptoms you may have. This is allergy season here so more and more people are being tested (one of the test centers is across the street from where I work, ti's always so busy). My son will be tested as he has asthma and while he hasn't left his house in over a month (other than to drive to the store, and his wife goes into the store while he waits in the car with their son), he does cough a lot and he had streaks of blood in his mucous a few days ago. The nurse he spoke to the Alberta Health Services said it's just asthma but he and his girlfriend will be tested to set their minds at ease. I have a much bigger chance of contracting it as I work in a drugstore and PEOPLE WON'T STAY HOME!...See MoreAnnegriet
